The fourth annual “Out on Screen” Film Festival will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point throughout March and April, sponsored by the Faculty and Staff Gay-Straight Alliance.

The film screenings are free and open to the public. Each film begins at 7 p.m. in the Dreyfus University Center Theater. “Out on Screen” offers audiences a lineup of award-winning, independent feature films and documentaries that explore diversity along the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer spectrum.

The film series includes:

  • Wednesday, March 4, “Love is Strange” – After nearly four decades together, Ben and George finally tie the knot.  But when George loses his job, the couple must sell their Manhattan apartment and deal with the intergenerational tensions and family dynamics of their new, separate living arrangements.

  •  Friday, March 6, “Appropriate Behavior” – Shirin tries to juggle her multiple identities as ideal Persian daughter, politically correct bisexual and Brooklyn hipster in this unconventional comedy of coming out in an Iranian-American family.

  •  Tuesday, March 10, “Eat With Me” – When a disapproving mother moves in with her chef son, both find a fresh take on life, love and Asian food in the heart of Los Angeles.

  •  Wednesday, March 11, “Out in the Night” – This documentary tells the story of The New Jersey Four, a group of young African American lesbians charged with assault and attempted murder after defending themselves against a homophobic attacker in New York’s West Village.

The festival will continue with four additional films through Friday, April 3. For more information on the “Out on Screen” Film Festival, including film trailers and a complete schedule, visit OutOnScreen.wordpress.com.

The Faculty and Staff Gay-Straight Alliance aims to bring together LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies across campus to reduce fear, prejudice and discrimination. The group educates members of the campus community on LGBTQ+ issues and promotes a safe and open environment to welcome, encourage, discuss and support diversity.
