Songs about spring and summer as well as traditional and spiritual songs will be presented by three choirs at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in May.
The Women’s Choir, Concert Choir and Choral Union will present their last concert of the academic year at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. Piano accompaniment will be provided by Mary Ellen Mitchell of Stevens Point.
The Women’s Choir will perform “Two Strings But One Voice” by Randall Stroope, “Alleluia” by Randall Thompson, “At the River” by Aaron Copland and “Serenade to Spring” by Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rogers. The choir is conducted by Catherine Wilson, assistant professor and coordinator of music education.
The Concert Choir will perform “Summertime” by George Gershwin, the Irish folk song “Last Rose of Summer,” “Psalm 23” by Gwyneth Walker, “Pilgrims’ Hymn” by Stephen Paulus and two traditional spirituals - “If I got my Ticket, can I Ride?” with a solo by Lucas Zaremba and “Rock my Soul” with a solo by Lee St. Martin.
The Choral Union will sing “Sommarpsalm” by Waldemar Åhlen, “Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen” from “A German Requiem” by Johannes Brahms, “Now Welcome Summer” by Robert Washburn and “Where the Music comes From” by Lee Hoiby. The Concert Choir and Choral Union are conducted by Lucinda Thayer, professor of music and director of choral activities.
Tickets are $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D.
