Three UW-Stevens Point choirs to perform

Student voices from three choirs will fill University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Michelsen Hall this month for a choral concert of psalms and folk and madrigal songs.

The Concert Choir, Women’s Choir and Choral Union will perform Wednesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center. Music Department professors Lucinda Thayer and Judy Bond will direct, featuring student conductor Allycia Zalac and accompaniment by local pianist Mary Ellen Mitchell.

The Concert Choir will perform “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine” and “little man in a hurry,” both by Eric Whitacre. Among the songs by the Women’s Choir are the madrigal “In These Delightful Pleasant Groves” by Henry Purcell, the mountain ballad “He’s Gone Away” and an arrangement of “How Can I Keep From Singing?” partnered with “Amazing Grace.”

The Choral Union will perform “Chichester Psalms” by Leonard Bernstein, featuring percussion by Associate Lecturer Adam Rappel and nine student soloists.

Tickets are $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D.
