An alumna artist is returning to where she first launched her creative journey, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Clare Verstegen, a 1975 graduate in fine arts, will exhibit her fiber-based artwork in “Connecting Threads,” shown in the Edna Carlsten Gallery in the Noel Fine Arts Center Sept. 22 through Oct. 26. The show will also include the work of four of her former students - Jeana Eve Klein, Nick DeFord, Elise Deringer and Kelsey Wiskerchen. All studied in the fiber program at Arizona State University, where Verstegen has taught since 1989.

Verstegen will attend a free, public reception at the gallery Monday, Sept. 22, from 4-6 p.m.

“I’m so pleased to be coming home to ‘Connecting Threads,’” said Verstegen. “The education and opportunities presented to me at UW-Stevens Point ultimately proved to be the cornerstone of a rich and rewarding career.”

Verstegen specializes in fiber art at Arizona State, and exhibits her work nationally and internationally. Previously she taught art in the Stevens Point school district and was assistant director of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. She received a master’s of fine arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Free and open to the public, the Carlsten Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday evenings from 7–9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1–4 p.m. For more information, see www.uwsp.edu/art-design/Pages/Exhibitions/carlsten.aspx.
