Concert and Campus bands to present ‘Song and Dance’

​An evening of “Song and Dance” is in store as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Campus Band and Concert Band perform Thursday, Dec. 4. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center.
 

The Campus Band will perform a variety of dance-inspired selections, including Bob Margolis’ “Royal Coronation Dances (after Claude Gervaise),” Santiago Lope’s “Gallito pasodoble,” Steven Reineke’s “Heaven’s Light,” James Hosay’s “The Gales of November” and Samuel Hazo’s “Our Kingsland Spring.” Leading the ensemble will be Patrick Lawrence, assistant professor of low brass, and apprentice conductors Emily Batterman, Matthew Clark and T.Jay Lutz. 

The Concert Band will present an assortment of toe-tapping dances and lyrical melodies, including John Philip Sousa’s “The Thunderer,” Robert Smith’s “Encanto,” Ron Nelson’s “Courtly Airs and Dances,” Johann Sebastian Bach’s “My Jesus! Oh, What Anguish,” and John Mackey’s “Foundry” for twelve percussionists. The group will be conducted by Jonathan Caldwell, interim director of bands, and apprentice conductor Jared Dalgleish. 

The event is part of the Music Department Scholarship Series. Tickets are $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D.
