A
Valentine’s Day concert by Vocal Professor Susan Bender at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point will present the many sides of love, from youthful
infatuation to mature love, pastoral love and the fine line between love and
hate.
The
concert will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Michelsen Hall in the
Noel Fine Arts Center. It will also feature tenor Steven Paul Spears and
pianist Linda Sparks, both from Appleton, and is supported by the Great
Artists/Great Speakers Fund through the College of Fine Arts and Communication
at UW-Stevens Point.
Both
Bender and Spears will perform solo as well as in several duets. The program
will include love songs by composers from Austria, England, France, Spain and
Italy.
A
soprano, Bender has song with the Metropolitan Opera, Austria Festival
Orchestra and on several musical theatre stages. She has taught at UW-Stevens
Point since 2003.
Spears
has performed across the U.S. and Europe and teaches at Lawrence Conservatory.
Sparks is an active accompanist who teaches privately and has taught at
UW-Green Bay, UW-Fox Valley and Lawrence Academy of Music.
Part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, the
concert is $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for
students and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point
I.D. Tickets are available at the University Information and Tickets Office in
