Summer music and art camps offered through UWSP

Weeklong music and studio art camps for students in grades 9-12 (including graduating seniors) will again be offered at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point through the Continuing Education program and the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC). Camp COFAC-music and Camp COFAC-Studio Art will be held June 20-26, with instruction by UWSP faculty members and guest artists. The Africa West Percussion Trio, artists in residence, will be featured at the music camp. Camp COFAC-Music is designed to meet individual goals and interests, focusing on improvisation, innovation, self-expression and self-discovery. Instrumental and vocal campers will have the opportunity to participate in concert band, choir and jazz ensembles as well as chamber groups. There will be daily master classes, ensemble rehearsals and afternoon practice time to work on compositions and techniques. Evenings recreational activities will include a dance and a student/faculty showcase. Participants will perform in a final concert on Saturday, June 26. The cost for the music camp is $625 including classes, meals, lodging, music and evening social activities. A commuter option of $525 (including lunches) is also available. Camp COFAC- Studio Art campers will work in daily studio workshops as well as an optional evening life drawing workshop. Art campers will have five full days of instruction as well as evening activities, including open labs and social events. Studio classes will include glass fusing and slumping, metal casting and relief sculpture, graphic design, mixed media painting and drawing, and assemblage sculpture. A gallery exhibition of the campers’ work will be held on Saturday, June 26. The cost for art camp is $725 including all workshops, supplies, meals, lodging and evening social activities. A commuter option of $625 (including lunches) is also available. Registration is now open for both camps and early registration is strongly advised. A limited number of scholarships are available from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and COFAC.
