March Madness at UW-Stevens Point

UW-Stevens Point will host several events surrounding the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division III basketball championships for both men and women.
  • Friday and Saturday, March 7-8 - The first and second round of the men's basketball NCAA Division III tournament will be held on Bennett Court in Quandt Gym. The top-ranked Pointers (26-1) will take on Marian (22-6) at 8 p.m. on Friday in the opening round.   • Friday and Saturday, March 14-15 - UW-Stevens Point will host the NCAA Division III men's basketball sectional at the Quandt Fieldhouse. The Pointers will meet Emory University in the second game on Friday evening, with UW-Whitewater taking on the University of Texas-Dallas in the first. The winners of each game will play on Saturday night for the right to advance to the Final Four in Salem, Va., on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22.   • Tuesday, March 18 - The final lecture of a yearlong series on Title IX, held to mark UW-Stevens Point's hosting of the  NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship​, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center. Open to the public free of charge, the lecture will be presented by Pat McKinzie-Lechault, a former player in the first women's professional basketball league.

    Titled "A Mother’s Inspiration, A Daughter’s Destiny – Four Decades, Three Generations, Two Continents, One Game,” the lecture will focus on "Home Sweet Hardwood," McKinzie-Lechault's autobiographical book about her breaking the barriers through basketball as one of the first professional female basketball players. She is currently a teacher and coach at International School of Geneva, Switzerland​. Her daughter, Nathalie Lechault, an 2009 alumna who played basketball as a Pointer from 2005-2009, will also speak.

  • Friday and Saturday, March 21-22 - The NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Final Four will be held on Bennett Court in Quandt Gym. Ticket information may be found here.​

  • Friday, March 21 - The Pointers men's hockey team will play in the NCAA hockey Frozen Four in Lewiston, Maine, after a 3-0 win over second-ranked St. Thomas​ in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday night at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
