Become a Content Tutor

Our program hires outstanding students recommended by faculty in consultation with the Content Tutoring Coordinator. Tutors help students understand course material, review for tests, and develop study skills. They bring experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to group discussions and one-on-one tutorials. The Content Tutoring program serves approximately 800-900 students in over 100 courses each semester.

 Qualifications:

  • 3.25 better cumulative GPA.
  • Completed at least one semester at UWSP.
  • Earned A or A- in courses you wish to tutor (test out acceptable for some courses).
  • Excel at working with peers in a cooperative learning environment.
  • Enjoy helping others to learn.
Specific Duties:
  • Tutor UWSP students either one-on-one or in small groups in course content.
  • Assist learners in the development of effective study skills and testing strategies.
  • Keep accurate records of tutoring sessions on appropriate forms.
  • Communicate regularly with the CAT Coordinator.
  • Communicate regularly with the instructors of courses (group leaders).
  • Communicate with the TLC Receptionist any schedule changes that affect one-on-one tutoring availability.
  • Be knowledgeable of TLC and CAT program procedures.
  • Turn in required records and paperwork in a timely manner as requested.
  • Attend required orientations, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Keep a record of hours worked and submit hours by required dates.

Selection of group and one-on-one tutors for a given semester, begins week 10 of the previous semester.

One-on-one tutors arrange tutoring times with the Program Coordinator and TLC Receptionist based on their availability. Group leaders choose the days and times for group discussions based on their availability and course patterns (days/times of course lectures and labs, exams, etc).

Content Tutoring is a student employment opportunity. Tutors are paid for attending training sessions. The number of hours a tutor works is dependent upon student requests for assistance. The TLC cannot guarantee a minimum or maximum number of contact hours. Tutoring wages start at $8.00 per hour.
