Dance Master Classes with UWSP alum Adriane Fang - 11/19-11/20

Fang earned a degree in dance and psychology from UWSP in 1994 and an MFA in dance from George Mason University in 2009. She was a member of Doug Varone and Dancers from 1996 to 2006 and has taught and staged Varone’s works for various universities and companies, including the North Carolina School of the Arts, CityDance Ensemble, BalletMet Columbus, George Mason University, The Ohio State University and the University of Minnesota. She has worked with choreographers Wally Cardona, Colleen Thomas, Bill Young and Penny Vercelline and has taught at the American Dance Festival Winter Intensive, the Open Look Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia and in New York City at Movement Research, Dance New Amsterdam and the 92nd St. Y and the summer American Dance Festival.

Fang is the recipient of a 2007 New York Dance and Performance (Bessie) Award for her performance with Doug Varone and Dancers. In 2008 she was a distinguished speaker at UWSP’s Laird Youth Leadership Day.

Who is the one person who instills fear and loathing in the Russian soul? The Inspector General! When a mysterious traveler arrives in a rustic Russian town, chaos erupts. Mistaken for a government inspector from glamorous St. Petersburg, the inspector gleefully accepts all manner of bribes from the scheming citizenry who fear jail or worse for having looted the town treasury. This classic comedy opens the 2009-2010 Department of Theatre & Dance production season

Dance for Cancer - September 25th & 26th - 7:30 p.m.

Dance for Cancer

Artist in Residence (AIR) Project presents the community fundraising concert Dance For Cancer. The event features performances by nationally and internationally acclaimed professional dancers and choreographers, including Arms, choreographed by New York choreographer Susan Marshall, performed by Michael Estanich and Joan Karlen; In Memory, choreographed and performed by Amy Beversdorf and Pamela Luedtke, created in honor of Greg Chelcun, who was instrumental in founding Dance For Cancer in 2004, with piano accompaniment by David Becker and Thomas Yang; and Voltaic Bloom, a collage incorporating American film classics with an updated score, choreographed and performed by Lindsay Fischer and Charys Hess.

Dance For Cancer is designed to raise awareness through informational exhibits and is a fundraiser for local cancer service organizations and cancer research. Recipients for 2009 include: The Strong Hearted Foundation for Stomach Cancer research, The Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation, Saint Michael's Foundation (earmarked for cancer services), Camp Hope, and Angel On My Shoulder.

JUMP RHYTHM JAZZ PROJECT is a company of rhythmically exuberant dancers that celebrates the timeless core of all jazz performance -- dancing and singing in swinging, high-energy bursts of body rhythms to the beat-driven sounds of syncopated music. Since its founding by artistic director Billy Siegenfeld in 1990, the company has thrilled audiences and students nationally and internationally with its rich blend of percussive musicality and emotion-charged dance theatre.

Jason Robert Brown the Tony Award winning Broadway composer and lyricist appeared in concert at Sentry Theatre in Stevens Point on November 18th. Known for Songs for a New World, Parade, and opening this October on Broadway his newest work 13. While in residence, Brown conducted a master class for majors in the Department of Theatre & Dance at UWSP.
