"A powerful musical that celebrates the spirit of the average American worker as it soars above predictability with the simple sharing of hopes, joys, concerns, and dreams."

April 4-6 and 10-12, 2003

The Story: Based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews with American workers, Working paints a vivid portrait of the extraordinary men and women the world so often takes for granted. The show finds music and movement in unexpected places including the seemingly mundane labor of the schoolteacher, the parking lot attendant, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, the trucker, the fireman, the housewife, just to name a few. It's a highly original look at the American landscape with an eclectic score by some of contemporary music's greatest storytellers. Through story and song, Working asks what it means to do a job, have a profession, put in a day's work.
