James Moore Professor Emeritus James Moore retired in May 2003 from a 27-year teaching career with UWSP's Department of Theatre & Dance. He came to Stevens Point in 1975 with his wife Linda Martin Moore and two children after an extensive career as an actor, singer and dancer in nine original Broadway musicals numerous national tours and television shows. He began a 40-year relationship with Jerome Robbins, first as a dancer in Ballets USA, a company that toured Europe for three years and was the first dance company to perform at the White House. Later, he assisted Robbins with one of his mater works Les Noces, which he has set on numerous dance companies around the world. As one of two ballet masters for American Ballet theatre, Moore worked with dance luminaries Michael Baryshnikov, Agnes de Mille, Alvin Ailey and José Limon. Prior to his appointment at UWSP, he served as Artistic Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet for three years. In October 2003 Moore received the Wisconsin dance Council’s prestigious Career Recognition Award. |
