Dance Performance

Each spring semester the Department of Theatre & Dance presents the
Danstage season, featuring new choreography by faculty and guests.
Dancers learn what is essential about rehearsal and performance training
and gain the ability to cross the bridge from studio to stage. Dancing
alone or with others, they work to train the body as a communicative
instrument. Dance students learn what it means to be a professional,
from the smallest detail of reading a rehearsal schedule to the
appropriate manner of bowing at the end of a performance. Guided by the
faculty and guests, they develop the ability to live in the moment in a
way that gives their dancing honesty, excitement, and range.
Each fall semester students produce the Afterimages, a dance concert choreographed and design by department majors and minors. Choreographic works selected from Afterimages are adjudicated at the American College Dance Festival regional.
Each semester dance students participate in a practicum area: lighting,
costuming, publicity, scenery, production crew, design, direction or choreography.
The department student organization Players
also provides performance and production opportunities. Dance majors and minors are eligible to audition for all main stage and studio musical and dramatic shows.
