Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical
Theatre at UWSP is one of the only in the Midwest that integrates the study of
acting, dance, and voice. The program is designed to create a rigorous and
comprehensive series of courses that prepare students to pursue a professional
career in musical theatre. Disciplined and talented students receive excellent
training and multiple performance opportunities in a strong liberal arts
setting. Admittance to the program is by audition only.
Students studying Musical Theatre at UWSP will
enroll in stimulating pre-professional classes. The courses focus on the
development and investigation of performance techniques.
Classes include:
- Private voice lessons (4 years)
- Acting (Meisner technique)
- Music Theory/Piano
- Musical Theatre Performance Labs
- Audition Preparation/Scene into Song
- Musical Theatre Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap
- Voice and Articulation
- Musical Theatre History
- New York City Senior Showcase
There are multiple performance opportunities
including fully mounted productions in the Noel Fine Arts Center as well as a
New York City Senior Showcase which introduces students to agents, casting
directors and other professionals working in the business. Graduates of the
Musical Theatre program have gone on to work on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and
National Tours as well as in film and television.
