Patti LuPone & Mandy Patinkin hold master class with UWSP Musical Theatre Students

On March 28, 2012 Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin held a three hour master class with UWSP Theatre and Dance musical theatre seniors.  The master class was attended by 170 plus students and community members.  Students were rewarded with comments like "You kids are talented and are going to go places.  Follow your dreams!".  On Thursday, March 29th, Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin performed at Sentry Theatre as part of the Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts.​

Assistant Professor Tyler Marchant's production move to New World Stages

MarchantThe Department of Theatre and Dance is delighted to announce that Freud’s Last Session directed by Assistant Professor Tyler Marchant will be transferring to the New World Stages in New York City. This is the largest Off-Broadway complex in NYC and currently houses such hits as Rent, Avenue Q, and Million Dollar Quartet. This is very exciting news for the show and a great reflection on UWSP.

UWSP at Broadway Theatre Project

Tim Howard, Coordinator of BFA Musical Theatre Program and Assistant Professor recently conducted a Master Class/Workshop at the BROADWAY THEATRE PROJECT in Florida. BROADWAY THEATRE PROJECT is a three week Musical Theatre intensive with over 200 high school and college students attending from all over the country. Other artists in attendance were Ben Vereen, Patrick Wilson, Nancy Dussault and Frank Wildhorn to name a few. Broadway Casting Director Dave Clemmons chose UWSP’s BFA Musical Theatre Program as one of the 10 top Musical Theatre Programs in the country to endorse at this summer intensive. Howard was thrilled to be chosen to work with the young artists and to recruit for the department of Theatre and Dance.

Theatre & Dance Alum Gerald Avery Debuts in Spider-Man:  Turn Off The Dark

Gerald Avery (Dance 2008) made his Broadway debut last night at the Foxwoods Theatre SPIDER-MAN TURN OFF THE DARK featuring new music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy winners Bono and The Edge of U2 and direction by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King). Drawing on over 40 years of Marvel comics, co-book writers Taymor and Glen Berger spin a spectacular new take on this tale that's familiar and fresh yet filled with unexpected twists and turns.
