Sarah E. Ross joined UWSP in 2017 from Chicago where she was a scenic, properties and puppet designer working with American Blues Theater, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Marriot Theater Lincolnshire, Paramount Theater, Shattered Globe, The Joffrey Ballet, The Second City, Theater Wit, BoHo Theatre, Writers’ Theatre, Theater at the Center and others. In Wisconsin, Sarah has worked with Peninsula Players Theater in Door County as a scenic and properties designer since 2008 and is a scenic designer with Renaissance Theaterworks in Milwaukee.
In Chicago Sarah has been nominated for five Joseph Jefferson Awards, and for best scenic design in Milwaukee at the first annual Footlight Performing Arts Awards. Her Jeff awards include: best scenic design for The Rainmaker (American Blues Theater) and best costume design for Tobacco Road (American Blues Theater). Prior to locating to Chicago, Sarah was the designing technical director for Helen Hocker theater in Topeka, KS where she designed scenery and lights for over 35 productions. Regionally, she has worked with TheaterSquared (Fayetteville, AR), Washburn University (Topeka, KS), Riverside Theater (Vero Beach, FL) and Blowing Rock Theater Company (Blowing Rock, NC). Sarah earned a MFA in scene design from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and BA in Theatre/Industrial Technologies from Appalachian State University in North Carolina. She is a proud ensemble member with American Blues Theater and an active member of the international Society of Properties Artisans Managers (SPAM). She is a member of Local USA 829.
