Background:
UWSP has a comprehensive voice system that includes an Avaya S8720 Media
Server PBX (Private Branch Exchange) with Avaya Modular Messaging version
3.0 software, and a Matsch Telemanagement System. A Gateway off the Stevens
Point switch, with 100 stations, is installed at the Treehaven campus in
Tomahawk, Wisconsin. A T1 for voice and data connects the Treehaven campus
to UWSP. There is 4-digit dialing between the two campuses. An Avaya
IP Small Office Telephone Switch with Voice Mail Pro, for 20 stations, is
installed at CWES (Central Wisconsin Environmental Station). These systems
allow a knowledgeable and trained staff to provide cost-effective,
state-of-the-art, multi-media telephone service to all UWSP clients.
The UWSP Telephone Support Office combines all telecommunications services into one charge. We include the station charge, voicemail services (automated attendants, bulletin boards, etc.), upgrade and replacement amounts, cable management, inventory, billing, campus operator services, printed directory services, personnel, equipment, supplies and capital in the chargeback.
Stations/Voicemail/Auto Attendants/Bulletin Boards/Call Centers:
UWSP has approximately 4,500 PBX stations. One hundred fifty stations use
IP Telephony and EC500 technology. There is one telephone in each residence
hall room, but there are two DID numbers per room (one for each student,
3556 total numbers). Users may have as many lines on their telephones as
they wish, but there is one charge per phone. All UWSP trunking from AT&T
and Qwest is ISDN, with the exception of 5 Central Office trunks used for
emergency purposes. Each station includes Caller ID, access to the
Hospitality Suite (Wake Up Service/Appointment Reminder), and over 250
standard features.
There are over 5,000 Modular Messaging voice mailboxes with 250 complex Caller Applications, such as Automated Attendants/Bulletin Boards. Modular Messaging voicemail is standard for staff and students, with no additional charge. Voicemail, Automated Attendants, Bulletin Boards, and Call Centers are standard options with no additional charge for set up or maintenance. Standard Modular Messaging features include: Voicemail, Modular Messaging Web Client (computer desktop retrieval of messages), and Modular Messaging Client Add-in for Outlook (email access allows user to send, receive, and manage voice messages, including faxes). E911 service is provided to every station. Remote access for long distance purposes is provided with the use of an authorization code.
UWSP has 144 high-speed modem access (RAS) extensions. T1 access is required for each 24-port module. This is internal to our PBX. High-speed modem access is provided by a 3COM multiplexer/router.
IP Telephony/EC500 (Extension to Cellular):
UWSP makes use of IP Telephony using the data network to transmit voice for
hard phones and soft phones. IP phones can be plugged into any active jack
on campus; thus, the DID number becomes portable. IP softphones enable the
user to control telephone calls directly from a PC. The campus telephone
number follows the user. Using the campus long distance network and IP
softphone technology, users can conduct business while traveling or at
home. The caller doesn't dial a different number, they just dial the campus
telephone number!
With EC500, users receive calls to their campus extension directly on their cell phone (with caller ID). EC500 makes the transition from office, to off-campus, transparent to the caller.
Other PBX Interfaces:
Matsch Telemanagement is a serial communication interface with all modules
integrated to the telephone switch. Those modules include:
Matsch provides for real time call detail and allows all billing to be done electronically via email. All services are coordinated under one manageable, integrated system where users can retrieve real time data.
