Telephone numbers are assigned by Residential Living. Each residence hall student receives his or her own telephone number. There will be one telephone per room, but two numbers. One number is considered the Primary number, the other is considered the Secondary number.
The Primary number has a prefix of 345-xxxx, or 346-xxxx. The Secondary number begins with 295-xxxx. The ringing pattern for each number is different. The Primary number will ring once. The Secondary number will have a double ring.
When placing telephone calls, the Primary telephone number will appear on all caller ID displays.
UWSP Telephones/Equipment
You are responsible for the telephone equipment in your room. Each residence
hall room is supplied with an analog telephone ("plain old" telephone). The
cost of the telephone is included with your room rental. The Telephone
Support Office provides routine maintenance for all UWSP telephones and
equipment. However, if repairs are the result of abuse, Residential Living
will be notified and you may be charged damages.
Personal Telephones/Equipment
Personal telephones may be used but are not repaired by the Telephone
Support Office. Personal telephones must be analog. Digital telephones will
not work. If using personal equipment, such as: a telephone, answering
machine or caller ID box/telephone, we cannot guarantee compatibility with
our system. All equipment must be Ameritech compatible.

Because of E911 (emergency) purposes, you cannot have the telephone removed from your room. You do not incur additional charges for having the phone in your room. The only time you get charged for telephone services, is when you use your personal authorization code to place telephone calls. If you do not use your code, you will not be billed.

Abuse, Fraud & Violations
Be aware that the fraudulent use of your telephone service is a felony! Any student found guilty of fraudulent calls will be held responsible for the entire fraudulent bill. All telephone companies will prosecute those individuals found to be responsible. The misuse of on-campus telephone service would result in your being referred to Student Rights and Responsibilities.

The Telephone Support Office has on-site technicians to correct any problem you have. A Technician will go directly to your room to correct the problem. You do not need to be present for repairs.
