Transportation
UWSP is a compact campus and uses that to its advantage.
With wellness as one of its focuses, UWSP not only promotes
walking and biking, but has numerous programs and resources
so that students don’t even need to bring a car to campus.
*U-Pass
System
– The UWSP Student Government Association (SGA) passed
legislature in the spring of 2004 to give all students the
ability to utilize the
Stevens Point transit system for free with UWSP ID. The
bus has lines that go from campus to downtown Stevens Point,
the Whiting shopping district, and even certain apartment
complexes. In the spring of 2009 SGA
passed legislation to extend the hours of the bus system,
creating a
late night bus. The U-Pass is funded through student segregated
fees.
*Campus
Cab – The UWSP Campus Cab is another free
convenience provided on campus. By calling Protective
Services at 346 - 3456 and requesting a pickup, you can be
taken to anywhere within a 5-mile radius of UWSP. Campus Cab
runs from 8:00 pm until 1:00 am seven days a week and is
funded by SGA.
*SGA Bike Rental Program
– The UWSP SGA has its very own bike library available to
students for free! The bikes are stored in the SGA office
and can be rented for as long as needed. For more
information stop by the SGA office located across from SIEO
in the DUC lower level.
*Online
Ride Board – SGA has passed legislature to
create and maintain an online ride share board. The site has
not yet been completed, although a ride board currently
exists on Facebook, a social website currently utilized by
many students. Just type in University of WI – Stevens Point
Ride Share Group!
*Outdoor
EdVentures Bike Rental – If you would like to
go on a day trip and don’t have a bike, Outdoor EdVentures,
located in the lower level of the Allen Center, offers
21-speed Trek bikes for rent. For students, a 1-day rental
costs $8. You can also rent a helmet for $2 per day
(students). If biking is not your thing, Outdoor EdVentures
has a wide selection of equipment for rent, including
canoes, kayaks, cross country skis and snowshoes, throughout
the year.
*The UWSP Facility Services department also
uses electric
motorcars for all of its work around campus.
