Woodpecker (also known as the Nuthatch Project)

Picoides pubescens, Melanerpes erythrocephalus, Melanerpes carolinus

Location: Sandhill Wildlife Area (Babcock, WI) http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/Org/land/wildlife/reclands/sandhill/

Transportation: Project leaders drive

When: Every weekend from January- spring break, Friday afternoon until Sunday evening

Volunteer Duties: Assist project leaders in banding birds 

What to Bring: Warm clothes, sleeping gear for the Sandhill dorm, enough food for two days, and homework 

What We Are Looking For: Banding birds in wire traps; take measurements ryan woodpecker

Project Purpose: Collect information on species composition in an oak-aspen forest; age-sex ratios of those species and home ranges for woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees
