Weaselparasite Project

Mustela frenata, Mustela nivalis, Mustela erminea

 

Location: TNR 4th floor labs or Sandhill Wildlife Area (Babcock, WI)

When: Early in the spring semester 2009 for 3-4hrs at a time

Transportation: Meet in TNR labs

Volunteer Duties:  Assist project leader in identifying weasel species, sex, and age. Also necropsy and examine carcasses for parasites

What to Bring:  Old clothes and possibly lunch. Aprons and eye-protection will be provided

What We Are Looking For: Parasites on carcasses donated by trappers

Project Purpose: Relate weasel species, sex and age to number and species of parasites. Also the habitat usage

 

Previously Found Parasites: Filaroides martis, Asceridae spp, Skrjabinggylus nasicola, Filaroides bronchialis, Taenia taeniaformis , Molineus spp., Dioctophyme renale, Physaloptera maxillaries, Capillaria mustelorum . Alaria spp
