Saw-Whet Owl Project

Aegolius acadicus

Location: Sandhill Wildlife Area (Babcock, WI) http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/Org/land/wildlife/reclands/sandhill/

When: September- mid-November, every weekend, usually 3pm Friday to 1pm Sunday

Transportation: Project leaders drive, possibly some volunteers

Volunteer Duties: Assist project leaders in prepping nets, site maintenance, handling owls from 8pm-5am outside in freezing temperatures

What to Bring: Warm clothing (3+ layers), sleeping gear for the Sandhill dorm, money, food for the weekend

What We Are Looking For: Banding and taking measurements on owls we catch (up to 20 birds/night)

Purpose of Project: Population survey to compare habitat preference of saw-whet owls during their autumn migration
