Barney Street 2007

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
 literary magazine

In July 1962, the City of Stevens Point, WI issued a Resolution of Discontinuance for a road named Barney Street and all adjacent properties. The tiny street bisected the campus between 4th and Franklin, and was named after Barney Kostuchowski. An article in a 1975 issue of The Pointer records the dedication of the Gilbert W. Faust Lecture Hall, part of the Science Building addition built on what was Barney Street. The College of Professional Studies, the Learning Resource Center, and the College of Natural Resources now stand on part of of the 1962 land purchase. Barney Street existed for only 15 years. Barney Street, the literary publication, first emerged on the UWSP campus in 1978. Its title is in remembrance of the this road.
