The
purpose of Beta Beta Beta Biological Society shall be to function as a society
to students with an interest in biological sciences. Its activities shall be
designed to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment and investigation in the
biological sciences.
ARTICLE 1
NAME: This organization shall be known as the Biology Club of UW-SP, with Lamda
Omicron
Chapter of Beta Beta Beta
Biological Society a subset of said group.
ARTICLE 2
MEMBERSHIP:
Clause 1. Membership
will be granted to any undergraduate student who herewith qualifies, according
to the constitution of the Biology Club of UWSP, the National Constitution of
Beta Beta Beta and to the Lambda Omicron Chapter by-laws, irregardless of race,
color, creed or religion, sexual orientation, handicap, sex, ancestry, political
affiliation or nation of origin.
Clause 2. Membership
will consist of four (4) classes: General, National Active, National Associate,
and Honorary. It shall consist of individuals who have met the requirements of
the Biology Club set forth in this constitution. National Active and Associate
members must meet the requirements for the national constitution and those set
forth in this constitution.
Clause 3. Eligibility
for general membership will consist of an intended biology major or minor.
Clause 4. Eligibility of
National Active membership will consist of:
1) a declared biology
major
2) overall grade point
average of 2.5
3) biology grade point
average of 3.0
4) completion of three
biology courses
Clause 5. Eligibility of
National Associate membership will consist of any general member wishing to
become recognized nationally as a member of the Lambda Omicron Chapter of
Tri-Beta.
Clause 6. Honorary
memberships are used to recognize the contributions of faculty and other
biological professionals to the goals of Beta Beta Beta.
Clause 7. National and
General memberships. The only difference between these two categories is in
payment of dues (see Clause 8).
Clause 8. Initiation of
all members will take place during November of the fall semester.
Clause 9. An active
member from some other institution who has transferred to UW-SP shall
automatically become an active member of the Lambda Omicron Chapter.
ARTICLE 3
OFFICERS:
Clause 1. As the Lambda
Omicron Chapter of Beta Beta Beta shall act as a collective, there shall be 5-6
officers of this chapter that shall share the rights and responsibilities of the
leadership of the club together. Planning and preparation of events and
activities shall be evenly divided among officers and each officer shall be
responsible for a major undertaking.
Clause 2. Only full or part-time students are eligible to serve as
officers.
Clause 3. The term of
office for all officers shall be for one year, beginning after the spring
elections.
ARTICLE 4
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
The Executive Committee
shall be made up of the officers of the Lambda Omicron Chapter of Beta Beta Beta
and any members who express an interest in planning events, meetings and
activities.
ARTICLE 5
MEETINGS:
Meetings shall be held
bi-weekly on a day and time that shall be determined by convenience to the
greatest number of members at the beginning of each semester term.
Clause 1. The regular
meetings shall be held bimonthly at a time and lace that is most convenient for
club members.
Clause 2. A quorum at
regular meetings shall consist of a simple majority of the members present.
ARTICLE 6
FINANCES:
Clause 1. Dues: National
Active is $30 for a lifetime membership; National Associate is $20 for the
duration of undergraduate studies; honorary members have no membership dues.
Clause 2. In the event
of the dissolution of the Lambda Omicron Chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the assets
present in the SFO account, if any, will be distributed to the National Beta
Beta Beta Biological Society.
Clause 3. If Student
Government Association funds are allocated for any activity, funds will be
returned to the SGA upon the dissolution of the Lambda Omicron Chapter of Beta
Beta Beta.
ARTICLE 7
ELECTIONS:
Clause 1. The election
of officers shall take place that the last regular meeting of the college year.
Newly elected officers shall serve co-currently with existing officers until the
end of the school year. All active members are eligible for office.
Clause 2. Nominations
for any office or committee may take lace at the elections meeting. Any willing
general member may serve as an officer or committee chair.
Clause 3. At the same
time new officers are elected the Chapter shall, if necessary, elect a Chapter
advisor from among the biological sciences faculty. Any advisor shall serve for
a term of two years but is to be re-elected every two years according to
national policy.
ARTICLE 8
Amendments to these by-laws may be presented by an active member or by the
advisor. In order to be adopted, proposed amendments must be presented to the
Chapter in writing and must be approved by affirmative vote of a simple majority
of the active membership.
ARTICLE 9
This
constitution was updated and ratified 13 September 2005 and so it is to be
updated in fall of 2008.
Article 10
Active members of Beta Beta Beta Lambda Omicron Chapter shall attend a total of
8 hours credit over the course of two full semesters: fall and spring. One
credit hour is counted per meeting, and all other hours determined by Beta Beta
Beta leadership. If the 8 hour total is not completed by a member over the two
semester period as stated above, the respective member will not be eligible to
receive graduation cords that year.
