Student Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society
Welcome to the student chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society at
the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. Our members come from a
variety of majors and are interested in the conservation and sustainable use
of all natural resources with emphasis in soil and water resources.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Our student chapter was awarded the National Soil and Water Conservation
Society's Outstanding Chapter Award! Someone from our organization is
invited to attend the awards luncheon in Tucson, AZ on Tuesday, July 29th.
Congratulations to the members and officers on such a prestigious award.
Hopefully, we will be honored again next year!
UPDATE 9/16/09
- Opportunity for national memberships to: SWCS, Soil
Science Society of America, Crop Science Society of America, and the
American Society of Agronomy. Keep updated with current issues and
technologies in the profession by receiving monthly publications and
e-mails. Also there are many scholarship opportunities.
- Soil and Water Concervation Society Wisconsin
Chapter 2010 Scholorhip Application deadline for submission to SWCS
student chapter advisor due by Dec 11, 2009. Also
- Things to come: Regional and National soil judging
(spring)
- SWCS is planning to sign up for College Days for
Kids again this year. This is when kids come the UWSP to learn a variety
of topics on campus, including Soils. If anyone is interested in helping
out, contact one of your officers.
- Speakers from the soil/water fields and members
speaking about their internship experiences including Matthew who will
be speaking about his internship in an agronomy, soil related field on
Nov 12th. Also to come Scott will be presenting his internship
with the Fish and Wildlife Service on Nov 19th.
- Annual Banquets.
- On Nov 5th, we are going to have a presenter talking
to us about the application process for graduate school.
- Horicon phosphorus analysis is being held every week
Wednesdays, Room: 260 TNR. Help is welcomed, grinding soil is
necessary for phosphorus testing. Once completed preperation for carbon,
and Nitrogen test
- SWCS T-shirts will be available soon in assorted
colors and sizes. This year's t-shirt has the the textural
triangle located on the back of the shirt, with the SWCS logo on the
front. The cost will be $8 for short sleeve and $10 for long
sleeve. Both come in colors green, brown, and charcoal and sizes
S, M, L. Email Scott Stipetich if you
would like to purchase one or have any
questions.
- Spring semester dues are due to Scott; $10 for the whole year.
