IntroductionsThe new class is here today!  The new class includes: Melissa Wenig, Greg Marty, Chad Gregory, Mandy Bembenek, Nicole Stashek, Sarah Phillips, Lynzi Zettler, Devin Mattson, Mason Smith, Dan Kinler, Lauren Mulder, and Christine Counard.

 

Treasurer Report: SFO: $3,836.82   SGA: <888.10     Frank's: 353.93

        NATA funding?  If SGA doesn't fund for NATA is SMC going to help?  We will vote at the next meeting.

 

5K Spring Thaw Fun Run/Walk:  

         Part of the proceeds of this race will go to the NATAREF which is NATA's Research Education Foundation. 

         Try to get people to pre-register!  Pre-registration ends April 10th.  Sign up sheets are at the front desk.  Help to get flyers out and around town.  There will be an article in the Stevens Point Journal, News Line 9, and possibly on the radio.

         The Course will be Reserve to Schmeekle, around the lake, and end on the outdoor track.  Everyone will have bibs.  We will need people to help!  4 at registration, 3 with results, 3 recording, 2 collecting bibs, 6-7 on traffic control, 1 on the radio, 2 photographers, and 1 announcer.

         The time schedule is as follows: 9am registration starts, 11:30 done, 12 awards, 1 pm clean up, 2pm start the grill for family day.

Family Day:  We have a grill!  We have rooms reserved in the HEC otherwise we are outside at the baseball fields, weather dependent.  SMC will buy meat, bring your own dish, and bring your own lawn chairs.  Then we will go to the ATF as a group or on your own.

World Wildlife Fund:  Amy Brugge is collecting spare change for WWF.  She is trying to raise $50 in coins.

WATA:  Everyone register early-don't register until Holly emails.  You will be give the 75, 50 and 25% discounts.  Do we want a student activity at WATA?  Help with the student activity: Maddie, Allison, Lee, Steph, Liz M., and Trisha.

March 4th, 2008

Community Involvement: (Amy Statz)  Boys and Girls Club in Plover.  In March we will go there around 5 pm and put an activity on for the kids.

            Maybe have a faculty/staff kid night?

 

Bulletin Board: (Trisha) HEC 147.  We have all the stuff for the board; just need some help putting it up.  Talk to Trisha if interested in helping out.

 

Fundraising:  Chance spoke about folding chairs.  The stadium chair company is where we can get them from.  $30 charge for logo.  They come in packs of 6.  Takes about 10 weeks to set up an order.

 

Treasurers Report:  SFO= $2860.88 deposited about $100 yesterday from community day.  SGA= $888.10            Frank= $150    SGA money awarded= $2516.73 this money is to pay for travel of 5 people for NATA, gas money for WATA, and a Starkey textbook to the library in the ATF.

 

Adopt-A-Highway:  April 27th  All juniors must attend!  Sophomores who have not cleaned up yet, must help.

 

Officers:  Send nominations for new officers to Tierney.  We will vote in April and the new officers will run the meeting in May.  Nominations for:  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer Elect.

March is Athletic Training Month!

-         Question of the day.  We took time and made questions.  Alex is in charge of the poster for this.  Rhonda will donate a gift certificate to the winner.

-         Posters inside ATF/hydro room

-         Flyers around campus; differences between athletic trainer and personal trainer.

 

Reminder:  We all need to be partaking in the SMC.  Coming to just meetings does not count.  It’s not a true club if only 6-8 people participate in club activities. 

 

5K Run:  April 19th.  We got the logo.  There will be a meeting on Friday at 11am.  Brad and Annie joined the group.  We have not gotten money from WATA yet.  The race will start at 10:30am.

 

Family Day:  April 19th.  We will roughly start around 1pm, after the race.  Possibly grill out, watch baseball game, come to ATF to show or play games.

 

Daffodil Days:  March 11th.  Starts at 8am.  Holy will post a sign up sheet. 

 

WATA:  Payment/Reimbursement plan in the past;  Seniors ~ 75%, Juniors ~ 50%, Sophomores ~ 25%.  Motion to keep the same: Kim         2nd: Lee         Vote: unanimous

January 29th, 2008

  • 5K run:  Due to conflicts at the university the new date for the 5K run/walk will be held in April.  The course will be the same as the turkey trot, but will start at the HEC and finish at the outdoor track.  We have green bags to give out and need help getting sponsors.  The 1st annual race in Stevens Point will be called the Spring Thaw. 

          Motion to keep parents day the same weekend at the race:  Trisha        Vote:  majority

          Motion to let the 5k run committee decide the weekend:  Rachel            Vote: unanimous

  • Adopt- A-Highway:  There will be one more adapt-a-highway clean up in the spring.  Juniors need to pick a date after April 1st.  If members have not participated in clean up this past school year you will need to do so on the upcoming date in April.
  • Majority of the club members would like a coach to speak to the Sports Medicine Club to express their expectations of athletic trainers.  To come talk to the SMC to let us know their expectations. 
  • Treasurer’s Report:  SFO:$2500       SGA:$888        Frank: $350 however, this account is not up-to-date.

          The club is trying to get annually funded as the meeting with the SGA committee is on Saturday February 16th at                11:30am.  It will be 10 minutes in length.  The more of us that come, will make it harder for them to turn us down.  People who will for sure be there:  all officers, Shelly, Carrie, Amy A., Maddie, Scott, Steph, and Liz M.

  • The National Athletic Trainer’s Conference is going to be held in St. Louis this year on June 16th -21st. 
  • March 11th is Daffodil Days.  Club members will be volunteering there time to deliver the daffodil’s to schools, businesses in support of cancer patients.  A sign up sheet will be outside of the AT classroom.
  • Fundraising:  Community day is March 1st.  There are $5 coupon books for stores such as; younkers and Boston store in the ATF.  We have to sell 5 books each.  We get 100% profit.  Online the books can be used from April 25th-March 1st.  In stores only available to be used March 1st. 

          Fundraising idea for next year is stadium chairs.  Chance will try to find out more information on this idea. 

  • Public relations committee – Bulletin board decorate for March AT month.
  • Social committee – Work with 5k run to determine ideas for Parents Day.
  • Anyone interested in learning more about the body.  Body World is being held on display in Milwaukee till June 1st, check it out if you get a chance! 
  •  Congratulations to Shelly Holzer who was awarded to be the Wisconsin Student Senator for GLATA! 

  • WATA:  Student affairs committee is looking for one student from every school to be involved. 
  • WATA:  A committee compiling of sophomores and juniors needs to come up with ideas for entertainment at this years WATA conference being held in Stevens Point in May.  The entertainment should be for both students and certifieds.  The fee for WATA will be dependent upon the hours that each student puts in. 
  • Nate Weiler spoke to the students reguarding a few topics.  Please remember to change bleach water everyday.  We will no longer have to do laundry, as Mike Okray will take be taking care of washing and drying our towels.  The lockers outside the athletic training facility are for ATS please place a lock on one to ensure you can have one the following school year.  Also stainless steel cleaner has been purchased in cleaning the whirlpools weekly.

v     Cranberry Fundraiser:  Rachel spoke and congratulated everyone on a job well done as last year the club sold about $400 and this year was $1,154!   Brad was the top seller of $195 and he will be receiving a $50 voucher towards a textbook of his choice.  The total profit will be approximately $411.  This fundraiser was a success.  Cranberry items will be picked up next week and you will be notified when you are able to pick them up.

v     Christmas Party:  Adam spoke on the upcoming Christmas party which is being held on December 13th at Point Bowl.

The club will order pizza and begin eating around 8:30 and bowling at 9:30.

v     5K Run:  Amy Statz spoke on this upcoming event.  There are a few dates the club needed to decide on along with family day being held on the same day.

Also the club needs to decide if there should be a fee for participants and if we want to hand out t-shirts.

v     Spaghetti Dinner:  Lee had delivered the card and money the club donated to the Newman Center.  The staff was very thankful and mentioned they did not even know we were there.  Great job clean up crew!

v     Items to address next semester:  WATA, Adopt-A-Highway, AT month, Guest speakers?

v     Treasurer’s Report:  Trisha spoke about the treasures report.  On November 14th, 2007 Allison and Trisha attended a meeting on how the club can be annually funded.  The treasures will be meeting with Holly to put the budget together soon. In the SGA account there is $888.10 and in the SFO account an updated invoice has not been received lately as there has been money going in and out with both fundraisers.  In Frank’s athletic account there will be approximately $100 after the SMC t-shirts are paid for.

v     Fundraising ideas:  Maddie spoke as in the spring the club is looking into doing a brat sale at Wal-Mart, as Wal-Mart will match up to $400.  Dates will be talked about after winter break.

·        Are you smarter than an athlete, coach, LAT?

·        Fashion Show- have each school make 2? Outfits for WATA completely out of AT supplies.  Rules and conditions would be set ahead of time.  Maybe try to get some Hall of Fame people on the panel for voting for the best outfit.  Brad?

·        Olympics- Dyna disc toss, ski pole javelin, med ball shot put, Swiss ball kick, Strongest AT competition? Using isometric holds

November 6, 2007

*  Frank attended the meeting and wanted to let us (athletic training students) know we are just as valuable as student athletes on this campus. Frank stated he doesn’t want us to leave feeling like we are not valuable and he stated “himself, coaches, and student athletes value athletic training students”! 

*  Frank also talked about SAAC.  If there are any concerns or issues let our SAAC representatives know—Allison and Adam.  The SAAC fundraiser is under way as the money raised will go towards the general athletics fund.  Items being sold include the DAWGS t-shirt and shoe bag for 10.  Order forms are due by Nov.16th.  The order form sheets will be handed out within the week. 

*  Spaghetti Dinner:  Thank you to IGA grocery, Shiocton Flyers Club, and Newman Center.  The clubs voted to donate $150 to Newman Center for letting the club use their facility.  The total profit from the fundraiser was $1394.16

*  Treasurer:  SFO: $2777.44,  SGA: $1301.85

On Nov. 14th Holly and Trisha will attend a meeting to see if the club is able to get funding to go towards NATA.  Other members are welcome to join the meeting.

*   This year at WATA the students input is needed for entertainment activities in keeping students at the Holiday Inn.  Use your creative minds and come up with ideas to share at the next meeting.

 

*   WATA would like each program put on a run/walk event.  Shelly Holzer will be the contact person.  This event will take place sometime in March to help promote Athletic Training Month.

*   Christmas Party:  Thursday Dec. 13th  at Point Bowl.  Eat at 8pm, bowl at 9pm.

*   Adopt-A-Highway:  Kim stated things went well, as clean up took less than 90 minutes.  The juniors need to start thinking of a date anytime after April 1st to start the first pick up of 2008. 

*   AT Student of the Month:  This months student of the month is Maddie Olesky.  Congratulations!

*   Class updates:  1st years: Spine boarding,  2nd years:  E-stim, shoulder,  3rd years: Research, projects, papers.

  • Introduction of new people: Rachel, Ben, Christine, Jena
  • Constitution:  Was revised by Lee and Holly.  Club voted on changes.  A motion to accept changes from Kim and Chance.  SMC unanimously accepted changes.
  • Spaghetti Dinner:  Posters and tickets were handed out.  Money is due Tuesday Oct. 16th.  Steph was able to get discounts from her grocery store.  Maddie wants a meeting with the whole fundraising committee.  She will be sending out an email shortly.
  • Fundraisers:  ideas?  Stocking caps, t-shirts, cranberry, raffle.
  • Treasure Report:  SFO: $1600 non tax exempt,  SGA and Franks is same as last month. 
  • Adopt-A-Highway:  This upcoming Sunday at noon, meeting in the ATF.  Need to watch video prior to pick up.  Tomorrow night Wed. Oct. 3 at 6pm first years and new members are welcome to come and preview video and take part in clean up. 
  • Homecoming:  Decide by Friday.  Theme:Vegas.  Does anyone have a truck or trailor?  Ideas?  Injured Elvis, or Sigfrey and Roy
  • ATF Responsibilities:  Making sure opening duties are getting done and initialed in log book. 
  • Bulletin board needs to be finished. 
  • Class Updates:  Soph: emergency response, posture.  Juniors: currently at H.S., working on UE, cranial nerves, and modality check offs.

  • Apparel:  T-shirts order form being sent tomorrow.  MADA and Lands End catalogs are up front.  An email will be sent out with a deadline for signing up. 
  • Website update: The website is up and running, all members were asked to view it to make sure names and home towns are correct.

  • Adopt-A- Highway:  Seniors did clean up during two-a-days.  Soph. do clean up in fall, Juniors do clean up in spring.
  • Holly Spoke:  The NATA is in St. Louis.  She wants all juniors and soph. to go.  The conference normally takes place the third week in June. 
  • Membership dues:  $10 each due by Friday Sept. 21st.  Write checks to:  UWSP Sports Medicine Club.  Every week late is an extra $5. 
  • AT Student of the Month:  You can nominate anyone in the SMC. 
  • Involvement Fair:  Thurs. 7-9pm  Sign up sheet at the desk. 
  • ATF:  practices are around 3-3:15.  Get water ready before practice.  Put bags in the ice chest and use the ice from the ATF for the ice chest.  Cubby holes in the ATF are for observation students only!  We use the lockers.
