Section 10 J.  Legislative Issues Director  – Major responsibility to implement and enforce SGA legislative policy. Actively promote student understanding and involvement in Government. Work on voter registration drive and get-out-the-vote activities. Update the University Center bulletin board during elections.  Stay in constant contact with state and local representatives about issues regarding students. 

Additionally, the President and Vice President expect the Legislative Issues Director to be very involved with the elections in the fall. We would like to see some work done toward bringing SGA closer to city, state, national, and international venues. All Executive Staff will be required to spend portions of their paid time in listening or feedback sessions with students, as well as keeping regular office hours. Applicants interested in this position are encouraged to submit answers to the following questions with their application:

  1. For the upcoming presidential election in November, please indicate how you plan to “get-out-the-vote,” as well as advertise this election in general, and what you’d plan to do the week and day of the election.

Multicultural and Diversity Issues Director: Not more than 20 hours/week at $6.55/hour

Section 10 K. Multicultural and Diversity Issues Director - Reports to the President.  Direct students with Civil Rights concerns through the appropriate channels to meet their needs.  Organize and facilitate regular meetings cooperatively with student leaders from Multicultural and Diversity organizations on campus.  Serve on or recommend to the Vice President a delegate to serve on: Affirmative Action Advisory board and other Multicultural and Diversity related committees as deemed necessary by the Vice President or Multicultural and Diversity Issues Director or Committee.  Pro-actively address UW System wide Multicultural and Diversity concerns and issues. Implement and enforce SGA Multicultural and Diversity policy. Develop a working relationship with the UWSP MCA Director and Outreach-Specialists from the MCRC and NAC. Provide leadership to ensure an open and positive environment for all Cultures and lifestyles to flourish in the university and community. Compile a comprehensive calendar of diversity group meetings, programs, and events, and post such calendar in the SGA office with updates as they are brought to Director’s attention.

We would like to see some work done toward building a sense of unity on campus, particularly in making all people feel comfortable and welcomed by SGA. Student Life Issues Director: Not more than 18 hours/week at $6.55/hour

Section 10 L. Student Life Issues Director   Reports to the President. Pro-actively address health and safety issues on campus and in the community. Implement and enforce SGA student life policy. Send biweekly updates in   collaboration with the Communication and Public Relations Director to the organizational lists (updating on PACSO, SGA, asking for questions, concerns, etc.). Coordinate, along with the Student Involvement and Employment Office the re-recognition process for student organizations, and furthermore authenticate the re-recognition process. Help to direct student organizations to leadership development programs. Work with the City of Stevens Point to address policy issues that affect students.  Deal with any other campus problem that may occur that does not fall within the responsibility of the other directors.

Additionally, the President and Vice President expect the Student Life Issues Director to be very involved with development and implementation of the Late Night Bus program through UPASS. We would like to see some work done toward promoting and collecting more student input regarding housing, both on and off campus. Environmental and Sustainability Issues Director: Not more than 20 hours/week at $6.55/hour

Section 10 N.  Environmental and Sustainability Issues Director – Main duties are to work with different environmental student organizations, to coordinate environmental awareness, conduct events, and to implement and enforce environmental policies campus wide. 

Additionally, the President and Vice President expect the Environmental and Sustainablity Issues Director to be very involved with the new food contract, bike rentals, reuseable dishware, and the sustainability reserve. We would like to see some work done toward the development and possible implementation of a composting program. All Executive Staff will be required to spend portions of their paid time in listening or feedback sessions with students, as well as keeping regular office hours. Applicants interested in this position are encouraged to submit answers to the following questions with their application:

  1. Currently we are trying to find a few ideal places to put bike sheds and/or parking garages for campus use and storage for SGA’s new bike rental program. What are some ideas you have for this particular need in the program?

  2. What are some ideas or strategies you plan to use to promote waste reduction, recycling, alternative energies and/or environmental awareness on this campus?

  3. Please design a poster or a letter to the editor that promotes the usage and implementation of re-useable dishware in the DUC and elsewhere on campus.
