ABOUT PHI OMEGA
Why join Phi Omega Sorority? To meet new people from a broad range of backgrounds, have fun, gain leadership skills, become involved in the community, resume building, and the list goes on!
Here are some of the very important issues that Phi Omega stands for:
Michelle Walsdorf transferred from Cornell College in Iowa to the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point in 1987. She convinced her new friends that they didn't have to be fraternity little sisters, that they could form a sorority. They modeled the new sorority after the Phi Omega that Michelle had been a member of at Cornell, keeping its values and traditions. The sorority was recognized by the Student Government Association of UWSP on April 10, 1987. The founding members are Michelle Walsdorf, Darla Faken, Martha Goetch, Sandra Buentello, Beth Bergman, Deb Denker, Lisa Tetzlaff, and Marion Schleifer. Our colors are red and white, and the Phi Omega flowers are one white rose and one red rose. Our symbol is the mythological creature, the phoenix. We have four areas of emphasis...
The Phoenix
The reason that we have come to college is to learn. In Phi Omega academics are a top priority. Every sister must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain an active member. The sorority offers several tools to help each sister to achieve, for example we reserve a weekly study table in the library, we have old test files, and we maintain a professor list.
Being a social Greek organization, the sisters do attend many activities with the other chapters on campus. We organize several social events, Double Rose Formal, Fun and Games, Greek week, Screw Your Sister, Homecoming...just to name a few. We also have grill-outs, movie nights, pot-lucks, and go on road trips.

Community service is a large part of what Phi Omega is all about. We keep ourselves busy by volunteering at the bi-annual blood drive, helping at the Family Crisis Center, and by cleaning our adopted highway. In the past we have also donated to the Schaefer Run to benefit alcohol awareness, and to the Eagle Walk. Not only have these activities allowed us to "give back" to the community, but we have been awarded the Association for Community Tasks' Community Group of the Year several years running.

HIGHWAY CLEANUP
Sisterhood is one of the things that Phi Omega stands for. Joining opens the door to life long friendships among a diverse group of women. The bonds created between friends in the sorority are like those between sisters. Each semester we hold a specific event to nurture this bond, Unity. This retreat allows us to get to know each other even better, and to have a lot of fun!
