MISSIONS
Place of Peace: Every Thursday, a local soup kitchen (1248 Portage Street) serves a warm meal to the less fortunate citizens of Stevens Point. Once or twice a semester, the Peace community has volunteered to help cook and serve a meal. We cook the meal in the basement of Peace, transport it over to the Place of Peace, and serve it. There is opportunity also to interact with those who come for the meal. Students have said that it really makes you feel good inside when you participate in this event. You’ll come to realize how much they appreciate a nice warm meal, maybe the best meal that they'll eat all week. Please come and take part in this extraordinary event.
Servant Events: Once a semester, we take a weekend mission trip to a neighboring city (usually larger than Point). This semester, the plans aren't set, but we anticipate the weekend will be at the beginning of November. We usually work out a plan with members of a central city church, stay in a student parent's home or stay with members of the church or it the church itself.
A variety of outreach and mission opportunities are provided. Usually they deal with the poor and needy areas of the city or else with people that just need some extra help. Activities can range from raking, painting and constructing, serving a meal, handing out fliers, or working with children. This is a good way to develop a better relationship with others from Peace and also a wonderful way to faith-stretch. You will have many wonderful stories to share and you will grow in your faith in the process.
Long-distance Mission Trips: During early January and again over Spring Break, we make available the opportunity to participate in mission trips. The personal cost is minimal (between $75 and $100), but we intentionally involve others both to be prayer partners and to be financial supporters. Early commitments need to be made so that we can adequately plan.
