Reading Is Fundamental

Reading Is Fun!

Reading is Fun, better known as RIF, is a nation wide event that promotes reading literacy. R.I.F. usually takes place the first week of April.  During this time KDP members volunteer their time reading to local schools and partake in special reading events throughout the week. In April of 2006 we held a Pajama Party at the Portage County Library. Families from all over the Stevens Point area were invited. Each child that attended the event not only received a free book, but was given the opportunity to spend some quality time reading with a KDP member. Bedtime snacks were also provided. Along with the above activities we had a bake sale on campus that helped raise money for local agencies within our community. All together we collected over 300 books and donated over a $150.00 to local agencies to help enhance their literacy programs. This was a wonderful event and we are super excited for next year!

By the end of R.I.F. there were some donated books left over.  KDP turned around and donated the books to area schools in Stevens Point WI!

Co-Historian,
Christy Klimek, and President Elect, Shea Melanson, donated books to Washington Elementary School.

Co-President, Kristina Theiler, donates a check and books to the Portage County library located in downtown Stevens Point, WI.
