GTU/ Geography Club Meeting Minutes  9/6/2006

 

                                              2:00pm

                                             Present: Brook Bonack (President), Nick Musson (Vice President), Alex Lawton (Treasurer), Corinna Neeb (Secretary)

                                            and Dr. Eric Larsen (Advisor)

 

  1. Halloween candy sale-
    1. Need to contact the parents of the freshmen living in the dorms via letter around October 1st and will deliver the candy to the dorms on or near October 31st.   
    2. Diane will be able to let us know how we can get the mailing list. 
    3. Option was discussed of sending letters in addition to the parents who purchased candy last year- if are going to do that will need to get the list of names

 

  1. Bonfire-
    1. Will talk to Dr. Lemke to see if she would like to host another event this fall and if so what date would work for her

 

  1. Holiday Party-
    1. Calls will need to be made to local banquet halls sometime soon to find one to hold the party at sometime the week prior to finals

 

  1. Other events that may be planned for this fall-
    1. Kickapoo River, Manitowish Waters, Black River Canoe Trip
    2. Porcupine Mountains backpack camping trip
    3. Bowling night

 

  1. National Geography Week and/or GIS day-
    1. Will check the National Geographic website to find out when the geography week is this year and also will look into when GIS day is and then will discuss at one of the meetings coming up if the club would like to do something to promote that week/and or day on campus

 

  1. SIEO Involvement Fair-
    1. Date: Tuesday, September 12th 7-9 pm
    2. Where: Tent outside Debot
    3. Geography club/GTU will have a table set up with at least one poster displaying Geography club activities
    4. At the next GTU/Geography club meeting decisions will be made as to who will man the table and whether complimentary candy should be provided for students

 

  1. WLIA conference in the spring-

 

    1. Since it is a good way for students to make contacts in the GIS/cartography fields and can aid in finding a job in Wisconsin after graduation the club would like to make arrangements to encourage more students to attend

 

  1. Next Meeting Date/Time-
    1. Monday, September 11th at 1:00 pm
    2. Pizza will be provided at one of the next meetings
