GTU/ Geography Club Meeting Minutes  10-2-2006

                                        Officers Present: Brook Bonack (President), Nick Musson (Vice President), Alex Lawton (Treasurer), Corinna Neeb (Secretary),

                                                        and Dr. Eric Larsen (Advisor)

 

 

 

 

Events of the Semester:

 

Fall Hike:

  • Date: Saturday, October 14th

  • Location: Devil’s Lake

  • Departure time has not been determined as yet

  • Contact person will be Brook Bonack

  • Sign up sheet will be posted on project’s room door early the week of the 9th

 

Bonfire at Dr. Lemke’s:

  • October 27th  and in case of poor weather October 28th is the rain date

  • Bring a dish to pass

  • Vegie burgers and turkey hotdogs will be provided

  • Time to be determined

 

National Geography Week/GIS day:

  • When: November 12-18, 2006, GIS day is November 15th

  • We are looking for ideas of ways to promote geography/GIS that week

 

Backpacking Weekend in the Porcupine Mountains:

  • Tentative dates: either October 20-22 or November 3-5

  • Would leave Friday evening and return Sunday evening

  • Dr. Larsen will be the contact person and will lead the trip if is sufficient student interest in going

 

Halloween Candy Sale:

  • Volunteers will be needed to help in the filling the bags with candy and in delivery of the bags to the dorms (candy will be bagged Friday, October 27th in room B304 & bags delivered Tuesday, October 31st)

  • Will be sending the letters out to the parents the week of the 16th

  • Discussed sending a card with the letter sent to the parents that the parents can personalize for their child and then return to us to place in the bags for a little added personal touch

  • Will buy candy the week before Halloween

 

Advising Fair

  • Wednesday, October 4th from 6-8pm

  • Contact Dr. Eric Larsen or Dr. Keith Rice if would like to volunteer to sit at the table to talk to students about the geography program at UWSP

  • A vote was taken (without Dr. Larsen present) as to whether GTU would provide free pizza for students that come to the geography table – vote was a unanimous yes (4 pizzas will be provided)

Meetings:

  • Next meeting will be on Monday, October 16th in room B347 at 1:00pm
