GTU/ Geography Club Meeting Minutes  1/29/2007

                                            Date: Monday, January 29, 2007

                                            Time: 10:00am

                                            Officers Present: Brook Bonack (President), Nick Musson (Vice President), Alex Lawton (Treasurer),

                                                        Corinna Neeb (Secretary)

Prospective Events of the Semester:

• Backpacking Weekend in the Porcupine Mountains

• Cookout at Jordan Park (or another location) when the weather gets warmer

• Hiking at Devil’s Lake

• Canoeing on the Black River

• Snowshoeing at Hartman Creek or another location (possible dates are Feb 24^th or 25^th)

• Ice skating/ ice fishing/ snowshoeing on Lime Lake:

  • Corinna offered to have a gathering at her house on the lake

• Spring Candy Sale:

  • Will talk more with Anna Hess to determine that timing that the letters have to get mailed out

• Bowling Night:

  • It was decided that a Wednesday night would be a good time to hold the event

  • Will call around to find out what night is open bowling at the area’s bowling alleys

Cultural Geography Event:

o       The band, Steel Pulse (reggae music) is playing in Milwaukee on Saturday, February 10^th

o       Contact Jeff Hintz if interested in car pooling to the event

o       Tickets $22

Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA) Conference:

·        March 7-9^th in Appleton, WI at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel

·        Students can volunteer at  the conference and if do so will receive free registration and lunch for that day

o       Student jobs include poster registration, working at a silent auction, and working as room monitors (duties include turning on and off lights, passing out handouts, etc.).

o       Working as a student volunteer will give you exposure to professionals within the GIS, Urban Planning, and Land Records fields.

·        Will try to get a van to car pool to the conference (possibly on Thursday)

·        Will post a sign up sheet

American Planning Association meeting

o       Nick will check into the specifics of the date and location
