Sturgeon Patrol

Sturgeon in the Lake Winnebago System annually travel up the Wolf and Upper Fox Rivers to make their spring spawning run.  While sturgeon are spawning on rocky shorelines, they are inattentive to their surroundings and very susceptible to illegal harvest.  In order to protect one of the healthiest sturgeon populations in the world, the Sturgeon Guard was formed.  This volunteer effort is directed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement staff and Sturgeon for Tomorrow.  Volunteers in the program "guard" spawning sites 24 hours a day during the spawning season, serving as a visual deterrent for poachers.  Spawning generally occurs in a 5-7 day period during April 15 through May 5.  Sturgeon are very temperature dependant so the exact time spawning will occur is impossible to predict.

Volunteers are always needed so check it out!   More information here.
