Buena Vista

Rapid bio-assessment methods were applied to benthic macro-invertebrate community structures at two different sites on the channelized groundwater ditches of the Buena Vista marsh, southwest Portage county.  Three replicate samples were collected from snag and riffle habitats at each site.  Calculated metrics were then analyzed for correlation to quantified nutrient levels at the sampling sites.  In addition, the resulting FBI metrics and community structures were compared between snag and riffle habitats, as well as between the two different ditches utilized in the study area.

Dates:  Specimens and data are collected in the fall.  Data is compiled and specimens are identified throughout the winter months.
