The UW- Stevens Point Fire Crew meets in CNR 170 every Thursday night at 6:00 PM.

  Mission Statement

The UWSP Fire Crew is a professional, highly trained and dedicated Type 2 Initial Attack capable hand crew with the primary purpose of wildland fire suppression, prescribed fire operations, and "all-risk" emergency response while providing for protection and preservation of life, property and natural resources. 


Crew Qualifications

The UWSP Fire Crew is an officially sanctioned and recognized student organization through the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and consists of students from the University.  All crew members are minimally required to be trained at the federal standard for Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) with many meeting federal requirements for Advanced Firefighter Type 1 and Incident Commander Type 5 (FFT1/ICT5) and above. 

We have officers and members on the crew that meet federal requirements for Crew Boss Single Resource (CRWB), Engine Boss Single Resource (ENGB), Helicopter Crew Member (HECM), Engine Operator (ENOP), 'A' and ‘B’ Sawyers, EMT and Paramedic, in addition to meeting Wisconsin Dept of Natural Recourses requirements for Ignitions Specialist and Prescribed Fire Burn Boss. 


Crew Experience

The UWSP Fire Crew is a state-wide resource of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and extends fire control capabilities by staffing initial and extended attack squads and crews, emergency firefighter riders, and fire tower observers during periods of fire severity. 

Our crew members and officers have worked for wildland fire agencies including the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, State Forestry Agencies, and County and Municipal Fire Departments.  Our crew members have wildland fire experience in various fuel models, terrain types, and geographic areas around North America including Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, the Pacific Coast, the Southwest, the Great Plaines, the Rocky Mountains, the Great Lakes, Southern, and Eastern regions.
