This week's edition of The Pointer (the UWSP Newspaper) was released yesterday. The Fencing Club was featured in the PointLife section with a nearly full page article. Pick up a copy this week around campus! A big thank you goes to The Pointer staff for featuring us!
Everyone is continuing to look great at fencing practices! All of the beginning fencers are doing extremely well. Next week we'll be learning the four basic parries. You'll have your first chance to attack someone!
The Links section has be significantly expanded. I have also added a new section to the website for Downloads. You can find all the videos, evaluation sheets, target area diagrams, and more in this new section. Check it out!
Tomorrow marks the beginning of this year's World Championships for fencing. This year it is being held in St. Petersburg, Russia. I will post the results here in the news section once the tournament finishes.
We have been Googled! Thanks to the folks at Google, if you do a search on their page for "uwsp fencing", you will now get our homepage! This has an added bonus. Since the UWSP homepage uses Google as their search engine, a search on the UWSP page for "fencing club" finally comes up with our homepage.
A special thank you goes to the IMC Department on the 3rd floor of the UWSP Library. They have ordered a new DVD for us called Armory Basics Clinic. It will have all the information to maintain your fencing equipment. We will be hosting a screening when the DVD comes in. Weapons for you to assemble and repair will also be available at the viewing. Thanks again to the fantastic IMC Department!
Welcome again to all our new fencers! Everyone was looking great the last two nights. You are all doing a fantastic job learning the footwork. Next week we'll be putting the weapons in your hand! We can't wait to see you there!!!
If you were not able to make this first week of practice, it's not too late to join! We take new members any day of the year. If you've ever wanted to try fencing, here's your chance!
We had a fantastic showing at the Involvement Fair on Thursday! Thank you to everyone who helped out at the booth! In addition to updating the glossary, we also have a new section on the website. Our club now sports a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. Also, next Tuesday (Sept. 18th) is our first full practice, including all new fencers. We hope to see you there!
I took lots more video footage of last night's practice. You can see many of the videos in our new video section already! These include basic footwork, blade work, and some just for fun! Many more videos will be coming over the weekend!!!
As a reminder, tonight is the Involvement Fair from 7-9 in the Debot Tent. Come and check our booth out!
We had our first meeting for returning fencers last night. We took care of the start-of-the-year stuff. We also talked about our booth the Involvement Fair on Thursday from 7-9pm. Please show up at any time if you're free.
After dealing with the business of running a club, we got down to fencing. Beginning with a little footwork, we quickly got back into fencing mode. We ended with around an hour of bouting. I took some video and will take more at tonight's practice. Expect new videos on this site soon!
