Everyone fenced extremely well this week! We started to add some footwork to our bladework. We'll continue along this track next week. A BIG thank you goes out to everyone who donated money to our donation drive. We raised $120! We'll be getting some new masks and gloves now. Your rewards will be coming in the next week or two.

We will be running a Fencing Referee Clinic on Monday November 2nd from 7 - 9pm in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center (DUC). I highly recommend that all of you attend. It is important for a fencer to know the rules, not just for the referees. We'll discuss the rules in greater depth, answer and questions, go over some common misconceptions and mistakes, and get to practice refereeing. I encourage you to read this handout beforehand.

We will be hosting two recreational invitational tournaments this semester. Everyone will be guaranteed at least 5 bouts, possibly more. It will be in the Laird Room on the second floor of the Dreyfus University Center. Registration will begin at 1:30pm and bouting will begin at 2:00pm. Notre Dame Academy Fencing Club, Stevens Point YMCA Fencing Club, and UW-Marshfield/Wood County Fencing Club will all be invited to take part in our tournament. The dates and weapons fenced are below.

The IMC (3rd floor of the library) has three competitive fencing videos available for check out. There is one for each weapon. I encourage all fencers to watch them at some point. They are fun and it's educational to watch some of the best fencers in the world compete. The call numbers are below:

We will be having intermediate foil practice in the Alumni Room of the DUC on the following days and times. More dates and times to be announced later!

There will be a Ladies Fencing Night on Wednesday October 28th at 4pm in HEC 110. Invite all your female friends to come and try out fencing that night. No boys allowed, including myself! Danielle Reed will be leading the event that night, with support from the other female Club members. There will be refreshments and cool door-prizes. Remember, this is an evening for ladies to try out fencing, so no previous experience is required. All men have the night off, so enjoy yourselves!

We had a very busy week last week! We started to learn how to parry and how bouting works. We also sent off a number of fencers to Chicago to compete! This week we'll be reviewing a bit and putting our bladework together with our footwork.

We had a lot of fencers compete this weekend at the Remenyik Open hosted by Northwestern University in Chicago! Everyone fenced superbly. This is the hardest tournament of the season. I've included everyone's results below. The first letter stands for Men/Women, the second letter stands for Foil/Epee/Sabre. The first number is their placing. The second number is out of how many places. Also check out the complete results including Pool and DE tables.

The Club wll be hosting a game night tomorrow, Tuesday October 20th from 7pm - 10pm in Room 223 of the DUC! Bring your favourite game and join us for a fun and relaxing evening!

The Club would like to announce a new Donation Drive! Last year it was a smash success. Here's how it works. We have different reward levels for how much money the Club as a whole is able to raise through donations. The donations will be going to buying new equipment for the Club. For each level we get that reward plus all the lower ones! So it's quite easy to rack up a lot of fun/funny rewards for the Club. All donations must be in by October 21st at 5pm.

It was another great week in the Fencing Club! As we improved our footwork, we got geared up to start bladework! This was the first opportunity we had to actually hit someone with a foil. Next week we will be learning some more attacks.

For those of you who ordered a glove at practice this week, I've put in the order. It generally takes about 2 weeks to arrive. You should have it in plenty of time for bouting.
