Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a fantastic beginning to your summer! I have just a few tid-bits of Fencing Club news for you.

Christopher Robbins traveled to the Twin Cities on May 17th, right after finals. He took 3rd out of 9 in the Mixed Épée event. Congratulations Christopher!

We will officially be having summer practices again! Those of you who will be on campus this summer, live near-by, or just want to drive back to UW-SP for some fencing fun should definitely join us. We will be meeting every Monday and Thursday evening from 6 - 8pm in HEC 110 running June 1st through July 30th. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

We have the dates set for our Club tournaments next year. Mark your calendars with the dates below!

May 15th, 2009 - Fake News

And in this week's FAKE news, I have an awful lot to report.

Danielle has resigned her position as President to steal Aaron's identity and become the full-time Satan associated with the Club. Beware of any "Do It Now!"s she tries to make you do when you meet in the hallway. Aaron will keep his God status for the moment, although Sarah has been eyeing it.

Henry has decided to take up curling and drop fencing altogether. He is very much interested in joining a local team. If anyone has any information that could help him, please send it his way.

Amanda, having given up her treasurer position, has decided to perform a hostile takeover of the Dictator role. Yes, Danielle has already gotten to her. So stay away! WARNING! Approach at your own risk!

Sarah has gotten distracted by yet another shiny object... wait... that's not fake news...

Jeff finally finished his first fiendish frantically fencing computer. And yes, don't worry, it's 64-bit compatible. It fences foil fantastically. It's sabre is slightly sub-par. However it's epee fencing is exquisite.

Gina is currently taking applications for the "Great Flunge Contest of 2009". Anyone interested should e-mail her directly. Applications are due August 31st. Entry fee is one candy-bar (to get Aaron to look the other way while this is going on). All contestants must have current health insurance and a special hold-harmless form will be required. Contest photographer will be Danielle. Celebrity judges include our Advisor Professor Francis, Johnny Depp, and a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. All contestants must use a sabre. The competition will be held during the first Monday after the new moon in September, at a time most perfect for such events.

In a shocking late-breaking report, Chaz has officially retired from fencing sabre. He will be taking up épée full time. Aaron has successfully converted him to the Hit-First Church of Épée. Anyone seeking questions should be reminded of the creed of this denomination: "Hit First, Ask Questions Later, Ignore Right-of-Way, Amen."

Nick has been transported through a black-hole into the future and is currently in a deadly fencing match with Sulu aboard the USS Enterprise. If anyone has ideas about how to get him black, please pass them along. Thank you for your cooperation.

Christopher has modified his epee with a reel, line, and lure. He's now off to go fishing for walleye this weekend, over in Minnesota. Good luck with that!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please remember that this newsletter is fake and is solely for your enjoyment during finals week.

We had the last practices for the semester this week! I hope everyone had as much fun this semester as I did. It was a blast. Good luck on finals and enjoy your summer!

I've put together a handout on ways to practice fencing over the summer. I highly encourage you to keep it up during the break. There are many good one person and two person drills in this packet. I also include a list of book recommendations at the end, in case you're interested in doing some fencing reading. If you have any questions about the material covered in this handout, don't hesitate to e-mail me.
