We had a great practice this week. Both beginning and intermediate foilists were working on reviewing some basics. The intermediate foilists also got introduced to the notion of Tempo. We played "King-Of-The-Hill" for our game this month. Next week both beginning and intermediate foilists will be learning and working on the beat attack. Intermediate foil fencers will also be introduced to the notion of distance-stealing footwork.

Both amendments were passed during our constitutional review. Our name has been changed to simply the Fencing Club. We also added the coaches amendment that I has been in the previous e-mails. These changes will be reflected on the website within about a week.

We will begin the selection process for a new foil coach immediately! For those of you who are interested in becoming the new foil coach. Your lesson should be 10-15 minutes in length. You must do your lesson during practice between February 4th and the 12th. Please e-mail me (amcta579@uwsp.edu) or tell me which day you would like to do it on! It will be a first-come first-served basis. We will be only letting two candidates per practice give their lesson! So sign up ASAP!!!! Individual interviews will be scheduled later. The information that was handed out in practice can also be found in our downloads section.

As a reminder, the Spring equipment order will also run from February 4th through February 12th. Please note that checks will not be deposited until February 22nd or a little there after.

The Involvement Fair is next week! It will be from 7-9pm on Thursday February 7th in the newly reopened DUC. Please come and check out our booth! Feel free to bring your gear, suit up, and help us advertise!

Lastly, there will be an armoury workshop on Tuesday March 4th at 6pm in the IMC of the Library. We'll walk over together after practice. Everyone else can meet us there in the IMC. This workshop will cover repairing non-electric foils, sabres, and épées. Weapons and tools to practice on will be available, although you are more than welcome to bring your own.

We had a great first practice of the semester! Next week for beginning foilists, we'll be focusing on footwork and parries. We will also be playing "king of the mountain"... fencing style! Intermediate foilists will be reviewing a variety of things, and we will be going through a brief overview of Tempo.

We will be having a Constitutional meeting at 5pm on Tuesday January 29th during practice. The main amendment that we will be voting on is a Coaches Amendment. There will also be up for vote a name change, to change the Club's name from "Le Bamboche Fencing Club" to "UW-SP Fencing Club". Please attend this meeting! This is very important for the club!

The Spring equipment order will run from February 4th through February 12th. If you bought some equipment last semester and are looking to buy more, you may want to consider an underarm protector, a sabre or épée, or maybe even a pair of fencing knickers. I will be sending out a new copy of the equipment available to purchase next week, as well as handing out copies during practice.

The Spring Fencing Tournament in May will be video taped! EVERY BOUT WILL BE RECORDED!!! The final bouts (to see who places) will be recorded from two angles! Professional looking DVD's will be made, including labels, cases, information booklets, etc. Family, friends, and you will be able to order these DVDs and have them shipped directly to you! There will be separate DVD's for each weapon. It will be our final fundraiser for the semester. More information about prices, etc. will be released later.

We continue to move forward during the winter break. There will be one last Winterim fencing practice on Thursday January 17th at 6pm in HEC 110. After that, regular Spring practices will begin on Tuesday January 22nd. Spring practices will be on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4pm to 6pm in HEC 110.

Two new things for the website! First and foremost is the new parents section. Right now, this is a guide for parents about fencing at UW-SP. We encourage all parents of fencers to read through this to find out more about fencing and the Club. Secondly, there is a new album of pictures from the Winter Fencing Tournament in December. There are only a few pictures right now. If you have more, please send them to me! My e-mail address is amcta579@uwsp.edu.
