It's always sad when another semester ends. We had a lot of fun playing fencing games this week. We will be starting practices next semester on Monday Januaray 26th. Practices will be 4 - 6pm both Mondays and Tuesdays in HEC 110. There will be no winterim fencing practices. I look forward to fencing with all of you in the new year!
Before the beginning of summer vacation, I wrote a packet of information for those who wanted to continue to work on their fencing. I highly recommend you read and use it over the winter break. There are many good drills to do by yourself or with a partner. At the end of the packet, you will also find a recommended reading list. You can find the books there at most major fencing equipment vendors.
We had our Fall Foil Tournament last week. Special congratulations goes to Chaz Determan and Chris Langlois who took second and third places, respectively. For complete results including pools and DE's, please check here.
Both Leon-Paul and Absolute Fencing Gear are having some nice pre-Christmas fencing equipment sales. Leon-Paul's deals can be found in their "This Month Only" section. The Absolute deal can be found right on its home page. Please be sure to read the fine-print on the Absolute sale.
Our competitive fencers will be heading to Green Bay before practices even start up next semester! They will be competing in the Robert Burns D & Under at Notre Dame Academy on Saturday January 24th.
We are hosting two non-electric fencing tournaments again next semester. Each of these tournaments will be held in the Laird Room of the DUC. Registration will begin at 1:30pm and bouting will begin around 2pm. Mark your calendars and invite your family and friends to join us! The dates are below.
Lastly, this past weekend were elections for the FIE (the international governing body for fencing). These saw a number of old faces reelected and a lot of surprising upsets. Fencing.net has had a nice discussion of the results if you're interested. The FIE themselves have yet to release any statements.
It was another great week of practice at UW-SP. We continued to improve our footwork and worked on our parry-ripostes. This weekend is our Fall Foil Tournament and next week is the last week of practices for the semester!
I made a goof on the order for the Fencing Club warm-ups. I got a few incorrect sizes. Thus I will be putting together another order to help fix the problem. If you would like to purchase a Club warm-up, they are $73. Please bring the money to practice by the last practice. They'll be here for you at the beginning of next semester.
Our next tournament will be the Fall Foil Tournament this Saturday, December 6th. Registration starts at 1:30pm and it will be held in the Laird Room of the DUC. Everyone should definitely try and fence in this tournament! For more information, check out this handout.
For those of you who are planning your schedules for next semester, the practice times will be 4 - 6pm Mondays and Tuesdays in HEC 110 starting on Monday January 26th. This is set in stone.
