How to Prepare for the Eagle Walk |

What You Can Do Now: |

1. Get your sponsors...it is never to early to start 2. Break in your boots or shoes. Your feet will thank you 3. Get in shape to prepare for the mental and physical journey. Think ahead about the gear you will need. (You may be able to borrow or rent items instead of purchasing them.) |

What Every Walker Needs: |
|
Backpack: medium size with a hip belt. Internal or external framed. (Tip: Remember you have to carry your personal belongs in this bag and try to keep the load under 30lbs.) Sleeping Bag: lightweight. We are sleeping inside. Bed Roll: we are inside but not often on padded flooring. Headwear: wool hat, headband, and facemask. Body gear: Eagle Walk T-shirt, long underwear (polypropylene), wool shirt or weather, pants that don’t chafe. (When deciding what to wear, think comfort and prepare to have clothes for different types of weather.) Hand wear: light polypropylene and mittens. Footwear: 1. WELL-BROKEN IN SHOES! And sturdy boots or good walking shoes. 2. Liner socks and a thick hiking sock. (2 liners and 2 hiking) 3. Shoes to wear at night (slippers, sandals, etc.) 4. Foot care stuff (moleskin, tape, etc.) Nightwear: something comfortable to wear after the day of walking. RAINGEAR!!! : NO PLASTIC –it will not survive the trip. Money: Bring about $80! Often the small towns will not take checks. There is an ATM in Boscobel (about the halfway point.) Food/Water: Bring some snacks (gorp, power bars, granola, fruit, etc.) MAKE SURE TO HAVE A WATER BOTTLE TO hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Other stuff: Eagle Walk map/journal, camera, soap, other toiletries, towel, lotion, sunscreen, Chapstick, bandanas, a book (if you want to carry it), ibuprofen, etc.
