EAGLE WALK

About the Eagle Walk

The Eagle Walk is a 200-mile trek walk over the spring break recess to raise money to support the Wisconsin Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. Each walker is responsible to raise $200 before the journey beginnings, which isn’t as hard as it sounds.

The money is then donated to aid in projects around Wisconsin to buy land for habitat preservation, endangered species protection, and environmental awareness programs.

The Walk is set to begin on the Friday Spring Break starts in front of the University Center. We will return by vehicle on the last Sunday of break by late afternoon.  We'll be back  before classes start.

During the journey to Glen Haven, WI, we will stay at churches, schools, and community centers that have donated their shelters to allow us to clean up, eat, and sleep. Also, we will eat at various cafés and buy food from the local grocery stores. Walkers are responsible for purchasing their own food. However, in several of the towns, people are so kind as to donate their time and food and will provide us with warm, home-made meals.

An average day on the Eagle Walk is hiking with your full pack for about 22 miles in a day’s period. The walk is mapped along country roads, some highways, and one trail. The scenery in some of these areas is incredible. Even though we walk through ALL types of weather conditions, the chance to walk through the roadways of Wisconsin in order to preserve our wonderful state is a great accomplishment.

Before walkers set off on the Eagle Walk, they are required to participate in TWO practice walks. These walks are to prepare the walkers for the actual trip. They will take place on one weekend in February and one in March. Walkers will be contacted with the actual dates, times, and meeting places for the walk before hand.

If you are interested in participating in the Eagle Walk, please contact the Eagle Walk coordinator listed above!
