Environmental Council Photos

Fall 2006

Adopt-A-Highway: September 24th

The Environmental Council has adopted a stretch of road on Hwy 10 West, just a few miles past the river.  At least three times per year between April and November, EC members head out to our highway and have a blast while cleaning up litter from alongside the road.  This time, we found some interesting trash and a TON of snakes, as well as receiving friendly honks and thumbs ups from passing traffic.  Click on a photo to enlarge the picture.  Be sure to click the "back" button instead of closing the window!

Our fearless trash baggers: Annie Stoecklein, Stacy Feldman, James Joslin, Jessica Vandeboom, Jerry Stoecklein

Annie models her sleek looking blaze orange vest, the in-look this fall.

James has a hard time strapping on his stylish vest.

Jessica may be afraid of snakes, but butterflies are her best friends.

One man's trash is Stacy's treasure...or in this case, treasure map!

Watch out...there is someone out the driving commando.

What a beautiful day!

We had to use a lot of trash bags.

What's happening?

Is James pretending to have another snake?

Ahh! Another snake!

Breaker, breaker. We've got a ten forty on Hwy 10. Over.

Half dead snake.

Time to head in.

General Meetings

The Environmental Council meets every other Monday night in the CNR, room 252.  If you'd like your picture up here, come check out one of our meetings!  We'd love to have you as a new member!

Organic Food Night:  Sunday, October 15th

Each year, the Environmental Council sponsors a potluck dinner called Organic Food Night.  The premise of this dinner is not just to have fun, but to have fun while comparing organic vs. processed foods.  This year we also took a little field trip to the Steven's Point Co-op.  Each person brings an organic dish and it's processed counterpart.  Then, while we chow down, we get to compare flavor, texture, price, and overall quality of each dish.  Sometimes we find that organic is SO much better.  Other times we find ourselves completely unwilling to give up our processed foods.  Which dish is which?  You'll just have to try it!

Stacy loves the Co-op!

Joy is a familiar face here.

Mmm...organic beef stew!

So many choices!

A new recruit? Maybe if he likes the Newman O's!

Alissa loves Organic Food Night.

Annie can see better with Oreo eyes.

Cheesy poofs...definitely better when processed.

One of these things is not like the other...

Jessica tucks into some delicious hors d'ouvres.

Stacy thinks this is the best idea since sliced bread!

Katie can't wait to try Joy's organic macaroni and cheese.

The age old question: Oreos or Newman O's?

Plover River Canoe Trip: Sunday, October 29th

EC's third annual canoe trip was a spectacular hit.  The day was sunny and warm and the river was clear.  We were able to make the trip down the river in 5 hours, taking plenty of time to stop and enjoy lunch at our favorite picnic spot.  We were also lucky enough to see a ton of wildlife!  The trip was so much fun, EC is thinking of introducing it as a spring event as well.

What a lovely day for a trip down the river.

Way to put those canoes away!

The whole group.

Way to cut James out of the picture.
