The Climbing Club of The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Constitution
Preamble The Climbing Club of The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a climbing community dedicated to exploring the many types of climbing (i.e. rock, ice, indoor, etc.) for University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students of all skills and abilities.
Article I – Name of Organization 1.1 Our student organization is entitled “The Climbing Club of The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point”. Hereinafter referred to as “Climbing Club”.
Article II – Objectives of the Climbing Club 2.1 To promote the sport of climbing for interested University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students of all skills and abilities 2.2 To provide an opportunity for members of the Climbing Club to meet and participate in climbing experiences together 2.3 To act on behalf of and in the best interest of the Climbing Club members 2.4 To promote awareness of the need to maintain access, conservation, and protection for the cliff mountain environment
Article III – Membership 3.1 Membership in the Climbing Club is open without regard to race, creed, religion, color, handicap, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. 3.2 Membership of the Climbing Club shall only be open to students of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. 3.3 Membership in the Climbing Club shall only be open to individuals who recognize that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Members will be made aware of the aforementioned risks and will sign the Release and Authorization Form. 3.4 All Climbing Club members must sign a separate Release of Liability form to climb at the Climbing Wall on Climbing Club nights. 3.5 Members and Guests under the age of 18 must have written consent from their parent or guardian and a signed Release and Authorization Form to participate in Climbing Club sanctioned events and activities. 3.6 The members of the executive committee will set membership costs. · Climbing Club annual dues for 2005-2006 academic year are $15. 3.7 All Climbing Club members must be in good academic standing (i.e. cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above) 3.8 The Climbing Club must have at least five members.
Article IV – Officers 4.1 The elected officers of the Climbing Club shall be: · President · Vice President · Secretary · Treasurer 4.2 General Officer Responsibilities · To assist in general operation of the Climbing Club · To make every effort to come to officer meetings · To instruct and assist members when needed · To perform duties as assigned by the President · To uphold and encourage Climbing Club Policy as outlined in this constitution. 4.3 The officers of the Climbing Club shall have the power to set the Climbing Club rules and policies. Such rules and policies shall be in accordance with the Climbing Club’s Constitution, The Student Involvement and Employment Office, and The University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. 4.4 Presidential Responsibility · To ensure the Climbing Club’s Constitution is followed · To provide leadership to the Climbing Club, particularly on trips and in Climbing Club sessions, activities, and meetings · To submit a report to the Climbing Club officers at the last officer meeting of the semester of the Climbing Club’s activities and progress · To chair Climbing Club membership meetings and prepare an agenda · To act as the Climbing Club’s spokesperson and contact for SGA, student body, staff, and community 4.5 Vice Presidential Responsibility · To assume responsibilities of the president when the president is absent, resigns, or has been removed from office. · To act as an unofficial member of all Climbing Club committees 4.6 Secretarial Responsibility · To administer membership of the Climbing Club · To provide secretarial support to the Climbing Club · To take minutes of the Climbing Club’s general and officer meetings · Promote Climbing Club activities
4.7 Treasurer Responsibility · To administer the finances of the Climbing Club · To produce with assistance of the other officers the Climbing Club’s annual budget · To be responsible for the finances on any Climbing Club trip, activity, or purchase · To represent the Climbing Club as a spokesperson and/or contact for SGA and SGA finance committee · To be responsible for any of the Climbing Club’s orders, purchases, or any other financial transaction 4.8 The election of the president will be a voted by the current officers. A two-thirds majority of Climbing Club officers is needed to elect a president. Vice president, secretary, and treasurer will be voted by the Climbing Club members who have paid dues. A two-thirds majority vote of Climbing Club members will elect a new vice president, secretary, and treasurer. 4.9 Elections will be held on the last month of the academic year for the following academic year. Each elected office will hold a one-year term. 4.10 Should a vacancy occur during the year, remaining officers may appoint a new officer. 4.11 Nominees for Climbing Club President must fit the following qualifications: · Must be a student of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point · Must be at least eighteen years of age · Must demonstrate the proper care, concerns and skills of basic top rope management, namely: o Top rope anchor systems o Belay Technique o General Equipment o Basic First Aid o Climbing Ethics o Limiting Environmental Impact 4.12 Nominees for Climbing Club Executive Officers must fit the following qualifications: · Must be a student of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point · Must be at least eighteen years of age · Must be a member of the Climbing Club 4.13 Any Climbing Club officer or member may be removed immediately from the Climbing Club or office by 2/3 vote of current paid membership at the Climbing Club meeting. Referral of charges must be submitted in writing to the President, Secretary, or uninvolved officers in at least one week prior to the Climbing Club meeting.
Article V – Climbing Club Committees 5.1 All Climbing Club committees must have at least one officer per committee. Any Climbing Club member is eligible to form a committee with the consent of the president.
Article VI – Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures 6.1 Complaints of the Climbing Club’s Policy may be made to the President or Secretary of the Climbing Club in writing. The uninvolved officers have the duty to follow up any such complaint. 6.2 Disciplinary action may be taken if agreed to by uninvolved officers. This action can include, but is not limited to: dismissal from the Climbing Club, ineligibility from Climbing Club activities, events, trips, and functions, and/or referral to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Office.
Article VII – Climbing Club Meetings 7.1 The Climbing Club shall meet every Monday at 7:30 pm at the Rock Climbing Wall unless otherwise announced by the President or Secretary. Officer meetings shall be determined by the President, or be requested by any of the officers.
Article VIII – Amendments to the Constitution 8.1 A two-thirds majority of the current, paid membership may amend this constitution. Notice of any amendments must be delivered to the secretary at least two weeks before the next membership meeting. 8.2 Each amendment to this constitution must include the issuing date, how and who will enforce it, and when it will take affect.
Article IX – Dissolution 9.1 The Climbing Club can be dissolved by two-thirds majority vote of the current, paid membership carried out in accordance with Article VII, whereupon the committee will arrange to transfer any assets to SGA.
Article X – Date of Constitution 10.1 The Climbing Club’s Constitution was ratified by the Climbing Club on December 11, 2005. 10.2 This Constitution will be updated at least once every three years.
