Minutes for March 3, 2008

Upcoming Events:

Children’s Museum - Sun. March 16th.  We have a Birthday Party from 1-3pm. We could use volunteers from 12:30-3:30. Activities would include: setting up the party, helping children with an art activity, and cleaning up the party.

Children’s Museum - Sat. March 22nd- We are open from 10-4 that day and could use help at anytime.  It is a free day for the public to visit the museum, so we tend to be very busy, and could use an extra hand.

March 29th is The First Annual Be the Change!!!! We are going to form a team to help the Stevens Point Area. All we need to do is bring non-perishable food items to DeBot at 8:30 and than we will do service for a few hours and than we get a free lunch.

MS Walk on April 27th- this is a seven mile walk in the beautiful downtown Wausau. Please sign up using the website below. Go to join an existing team and sin up under "Like eating Sand".

May 3rd is the Cultural Festival - It will be held on May 3, 2008 from 10 AM – 5 PM. Set up help is needed on Friday, May 2, from 3:00 – 8:00 PM.  Help is also needed on Festival Day from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM teaching, sharing, loading, unloading and assisting others. 

District Events:

I would like to extend a warm invitation to all of you to attend the 45th Annual District Convention at the Plaza Hotel and Suites in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on March 7-9, 2008. We have workshops planned, service projects, Governor's and Administrator's Reception, and our Presidents and Parents Banquet. It will be great to get away for the weekend!!!!

This opportunity deals with the day to day care of our animals in the shelter. This will include the cleaning and feeding of all animals along with updating any information in regards to animal status and care.

 Kindergarten tour guides make the trip to the hospital fun and informative. Join the volunteer coordinator and other volunteers as we take the children through the hospital.

RSVP Elementary School Reading Tutor

Elementary school reading tutors are needed throughout the Stevens Point School District. The focus is on emergent readers in first and second grade.

RSVP Junior High Tutor

Tutors are needed at Ben Franklin Junior High School to help students complete assignments in a homework center. Subject area varies depending on students needs; volunteers choose subject areas they're willing to assist with.

April 18-20 Prairie Chicken Festival; www.prairiechickenfestival.org- Join us to celebrate Central Wisconsin's Grassland habitats. A truly unique and breathtaking experience. Come to see the Prairie Chicken do its mating dance, to find out what you can do in your backyard to benefit wildlife, see kestrels in their nests or learn from Master Bird banders as they band birds for research. These are just a few of the many activities to take part in the weekend.

Move Some Earth Day on Saturday, April 26th. Volunteers are needed for a number of tasks and projects that need a variety of skills such as; clearing brush, cleaning, landscaping and mowing, turning compost & many other projects!

Upcoming Events:

February 28th at 8:30 in the morning we can go check out this amazing opportunity. We can hep load and deliver food. It is kinda an all day affair but I ask that you come with me so we can better understand this organization. If anything we can discuss later arranging a food drive for them. February 22 and 23rd is Bowl for Kids sake. They need volunteers on Friday from 5-10 and Saturday from 1-11pm. Areas include food, prizes, registration and bowl a strike. Great time lets try to go together. We are going Friday night from 6-10 if you would like to join us or you can sign up for your own time.

Adult Day Center volunteer

Volunteers are an important part of the Adult Day Center. The goal of the program is to support participants to live in the community as independently as possible. In a recent survey of family caregivers, all reported that the program.

Where would you rather be than here in the cold?

Upcoming Events:

February 7th – The much anticipated involvement fair is from 7-8:30. It is 80’s theme so we were thinking about playing some great music and handing out special goodies. Let us know if you have any ideas!!!! Come bring your friends or strangers to the booth.

February 8th - The Central Wisconsin Children's Museum is excited to offer it's 4th annual Family Sweetheart Dance. We will be volunteering for two shifts 4:30-6:30pm and 6:30-8:30pm. The dances are always a great time so let me know if you are interested.

February 10th – We will be ice skating with the littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters at the Wyatt Ice Arena from 1-2:30. Let me know if you are interested so we can get you free skates.
