Perhaps you’ve seen it three times already, perhaps you’ve never seen it, perhaps you’ve never even heard of it. But no matter your history with “The Vagina Monologues,” the opportunity to experience this production has yet again arrived in Stevens Point. For those of you unfamiliar with the piece, here’s the skinny.
An inspiring woman named Eve Ensler traveled the world and spoke with over 200 women, from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. She compiled these compelling tales into one stunning performance that we know as “The Vagina Monologues.” Today this play has been translated into 45 different languages and numerous countries perform it during the “V-Day Season,” |

running from February to March. The individual pieces cover a range of gender-related topics including, but not limited to, sex, rape, transgender persons, menstruation, birth, relationships and lesbianism. But not all of these pieces are as somber as they sound. Many of these subjects ensue both serious and hilarious emotions. One of the fundamental reasons this show has been such a success lies not only in the fact that it addresses taboo topics that previously had never graced the stage, but also “The Vagina Monologues” possesses the power to make one audience go from tears to laughter and right back again, all within one monologue. Now I now you’ve heard of it and if you’ve never seen it, just try, you won’t be disappointed. If you have seen it, see it again; this time, bring a friend.
