We know that you are curious about your child’s interest in study abroad. It’s only natural to be apprehensive; there is a lot to prepare. Most of our staff have traveled abroad and have seen our own children participate in overseas academic programs as well, so we understand. While we hope that our students will take on the responsibility to thoroughly investigate their program, from costs to registration deadlines, from passports to visas, from course selection to itineraries, we appreciate that parents are often involved in this process as well. Most all the information you need to educate yourself is here on our webpage, but we welcome your phone calls and e-mail as well; never hesitate to contact us.
For now we have identified some items in which parents are most often interested:
Insurance Abroad –Cultural Insurance Services International
For a PDF file on the UW-System policy insurance click here.
How to get a Passport
The Semester Abroad Payment Schedule (Keep in mind that we do not send regular bills.)
Our “Welcome Home Letter” (Students are changed by their study abroad experience. We send them a letter at their program’s end to mention just how. It would be good for families of travelers to read this too.)
Financial Aid Information
Scholarships
The US State Department’s Website on Travel
Health information. (Students from selected groups are often required to attend a health meeting presented by UWSP Health Services staff prior to departure. Health concerns and immunization requirements are reviewed at these meetings. It is important that all students for all programs have current immunization records and are current with tetanus vaccinations.)
If you are looking for the cost of a particular program, it is noted on the factsheet linked from the destination page. Remember program costs always include UWSP Tuition.
Study abroad is one of the best things a college student can choose to do; it is even better when parental support is part of the process. Thank you for supporting your child's decision to study abroad; there is no other educational experience that offers such returns, vocationally or academically and their trip is bound to be a pivotal moment in their personal educational development.
Sincerely, The International Programs Staff
