SPRING BREAK: March 14-22, 2009
Have you ever wondered how other countries around the world teach their students and prepare their teachers? Have you wanted to experience rich, diverse learning environments in another part of the world? Come join us in exploring the Education Programme of the United Kingdom! We will visit primary, secondary and teacher preparation institutes while learning from experts in the British Education system. Opportunities to compare and contrast viewpoints and practice will abound.
In addition, we plan a guided tour of London, an evening theatre performance and personal time to explore such places as Hyde Park, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace with the changing of the guard, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the many art galleries, Harrod’s department store and other unique sites in the city of London.
Application Deadline: December 1, 2007. Application requires a $250 deposit to secure a spot. Late applications may be taken if a position is available. Contact the International Programs Office on available space. Group limit is 15 participants.

Most seminars are open to all majors and minors, not simply those whose field/s matches the department/s granting credit. For continuing UWSP students a minimum GPA of 2.25 is required.
Priority is given to regularly registered UWSP students, but students from other universities and community members are welcome to apply. All participants will be registered in a college course, for credit or audit at the same cost, and will be expected to participate in the program at an intellectual level.
We do work on a first come, first serve basis, so early registration is strongly advised. Priority is given to regularly registered UWSP and UW-System students, but others, may participate either for credit or as auditors on a space-available basis and at the same cost. All participants, whether students or auditors and regardless of age, must be able to participate in the program at the college level, and stand up to the considerable physical rigors of this course (carrying your luggage on public transit systems and extensive walking are common).
EDUCATION 370/570 Workshop in Education: International Education Programme, Comparative Studies – United Kingdom 3 credits, Writing Emphasis
Coursework begins with two meetings before spring break and continues with one post trip meeting upon return. Both a Writing Emphasis and a non-writing emphasis section will be offered, pending approval. No prerequisites.
Graduate credit can also be arranged at an additional cost. International Programs will register you separately for the 3 credit EDUC 370 course. Class grades will appear on your Spring 2008 transcript.

Education Professor Paula DeHart will provide program leadership. Dr. DeHart teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of social studies methods, educational research and curriculum. She started out as an elementary teacher in central Wisconsin and has been teaching at UWSP for the past fourteen years. Her research interests focus on social studies education, especially teaching for conceptual understanding, building community in the classroom, and teaching citizenship skills.

SPECIAL NOTE: If you are not a Wisconsin resident AND you enroll in more than 18 credits for the Spring 2008 semester, you will be assessed an additional out-of-state surcharge.
Up to ten weeks before the start of the program, all fees except the initial deposit will be refunded. After the time, tuition, airline, tour costs and housing charges are assessed. If the program would be cancelled, all fees will be refunded. Because exchange rates and airline prices fluctuate, International Programs reserves the right to cancel, surcharge, or to alter the program.
