Destinations! Austria

Culture and Health in Austria
SUMMER: May 19 - June 11, 2009

Enjoy learning about health and wellness in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria. Live in the foothills of the Alps while you learn from Austrian experts about cultural and social influences on health care and health promotion. You’ll have the opportunity to experience firsthand a European lifestyle and you’ll be challenged in the classroom to apply your observations to health promotion in the American context. We’ll visit the Sigmund Freud museum in Vienna, curative mineral baths, and other health-related venues.

Weekends will be free for your own travel plans. Accessible cities include Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest, among other cities in the Czech Republic, Italy, and Slovenia. We will be hosted by FH JOANNEUM University of Applied Sciences, and thus accommodations will include student apartments, families, or dormitories.

This program provides an opportunity to study health-related issues in another country to become familiar with how different cultural, social, and economic factors shape health, wellbeing, and lifestyle.

Application Deadline: February 15 for guaranteed consideration.  Late applications are often taken.  There is a non-refundable fee of $250 to secure a spot.

Applications may be taken after February 15  if a position is available; contact the International Programs Office about available positions. Late applicants may have a higher airfare cost.

Go to the Applications page to find out how to get an application.
